Anon can't remember where in the meme, but a comment she saw in the last week or so brought this to mind. Is there anything in fanfic that squicks you...but not always? If so, what is it and why do you think it's different?

Maybe you dislike Chopper pairings unless it's someone his own age, or another sentient animal, or something else entirely. Maybe certain tropes in slash fic annoy you 99% of the time, or maybe you don't even like slash but find yourself shipping a same-sex pairing anyway. Maybe you can't stand rape/recovery plots unless the perpetrator gets maimed in the end - or maybe you don't like "neat" endings to that sort of thing. Maybe you don't like mpreg but secretly think (character) would be a great mom. Anything! Curious anon is curious.

Personally, I'm one of the few people sneaking around that ships Brook and Yorki. I ship it hard...but with any other characters under any other circumstances, captain/crew (or other authority figure) pairings make me uncomfortable. If I had to guess why this one's an exception for ( ... )

Hmmm... I don't know if this counts, but there are certain pairings I really, really don't like, but for some reason I like them together if it's a part of one huge orgy. O_o

I'm sorry if you wanted a serious discussion and I just came waltzing in and started talking about orgies. Heh...

Haha, no it doesn't have to be serious. That's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for anyway. :) Come to think of it, I'm neither particularly for or against orgy-fic in principle, but I think I may be the same way. Maybe the things that bother me are just harder to notice if everybody is getting laid equally, lol.

Agreed. I somehow have zero problem with alot of the pairings I hate if everyone in the crew is simultaneously getting laid... But that probably has more to do with the fact that I hate certain dynamics as romantic relationships, but I already love the dynamics of the crew, and if its an orgy, no one has to change!

I wanna start a bitching thread. So we can bitch about whatever we want.
Provide your woeiest of woes.
Please only respond to things you agree with the bitching of, or to offer consolation.

To start it off,
I HATE FEELING LIKE AN ABSOLUTE BITCH FOR NOT LIKING ROBIN/CHOPPER AFTER THAT EPIC ARGUMENT! Every time someone asks what pairings I don't want I hesitate... cause they dynamic really doesn't interest me, and I'm allowed right, but each time I state that I feel like I'm gonna be judged as one of the people who was in the thick of that fight...

add your bitchings, and we'll have a party!

Honestly, don't feel like a bitch because you don't like it. I think we're all mature enough to move on from that fight. I don't have anything against people who say they don't want RoCho, and this is coming from a RoCho fan. Just request what you want, have fun, blah blah blah. :D

And my woes will be kept to myself for now since I don't like to talk about it. D: But anyways, cheer up!

Not respecting the rule 1 request= 1 answer.

Now we hav esituation when people just request and don' answer. And situation like mine- I answered around 20 prompts, posted onlly 10 and so far none of them were answered >> it's not that I'll stop answering, but geez, people, be reasonable!

No more requests? anonymous April 17 2009, 13:54:32 UTC
I just realized something. I have no more requests. I've asked for all the things I want, and all the things I think of now are just variations of my old unanswered requests. Knowing that my chances of ever seeing the things I want filled get smaller and smaller the older the meme gets leaves me feeling a bit disappointed. But somehow it feels like a big relief that I never have to make a request again and worry that it's too similar to one of my old ones.

Farewell, requesting.

Hello, hopefully more efficient filling.

Am I the only one? Has anyone else reached this point?

awww, poor worn out requester. Any in particular from your list of repeat prompts that never got filled that you want to promote by telling me about so I might be able to do write something?

^_^ No, not really, but thank you for asking. Some gen, and then mostly the same character paired with different people. I guess they'll be filled if a fan of one of the pairings ever needs something to do and gets inspired.

No, but my trick is to post things and then find myself thinking a couple of days/weeks/months later "DAMMIT, that wasn't a prompt, it was a plotbunny and I want to write that!"

I've written, um, 4 of my own prompts on this place so far because I find myself unable to resist. But one of them isn't quite finished and I don't know if I dare ever post it, considering which one it was ("genderswap rape"). Someone else already started posted a reply to that one anyway.

Old requests anonymous April 17 2009, 16:50:22 UTC
I often find myself browsing roseveare's archives, looking at all the old requests from page one. Does anyone else do that? Sometimes I get ideas for prompts that I didn't think of before. It's fun!

I'd also like to ask if people who used to have page one on e-mail alert don't anymore? An anon brought up the question earlier today in a "Not many comments around here. Are people not interested anymore or not seeing it?" way. I know a thing I posted a few weeks ago got no comments at all (but that could be because the topic was not everyone's cup of tea, I realize), so I'm kinda curious. Are people still interested in the old requests?

*raises hand* I do that.

In fact, I have a list of requests I found interesting when I saw them. I look at it regularly to see if they inspire me to write anything. Some of the requests were made several months ago, but since roseveare has been kind enough to make the weekly update posts, I don't take them off my list either.

So, yes, at least I am still interested in the old request and not only because some of them are mine. I wish people would fill them, too, instead of just the newer requests.

I'm still interested, although I haven't looked in a while because I really wanted to write a few things from the new page.

But yeah, the things that I had said I would do and had saved with the intent to do from page 1, I still mean to try get those done.

Assumptions anonymous April 19 2009, 12:21:17 UTC
There are times I get bothered and/or puzzled not so much by the content of certain requests but rather by the assumptions that seem present in them. Or, more accurately, I can't quite determine what's part of the request and what's just an assumption of the OP.

Let me explain: this applies to other bits of characterisation too, but chiefly I'm thinking of requests for yaoi pairings with stated top/bottom preferences, when the OP seems to think the preferred position is actually wildly implausible for the character, needing special circumstances to happen.

Which is quite fine with me if the OP genuinely thinks so, but... it's just that I don't always get whether the response must share those assumptions as well, tailoring the fic for it - or if it's also okay with a response from a writer who happens to think that position is eminently plausible for the character/pairing in question, thus feels no need to write in those special circumstances ( ... )

As the requester of several bottom-Zoro prompts (including the "Zoro demands to be fucked because he loves it but everyone always expect him to top" one), I can say that nothing would make me happier than reading about a Zoro who is willing and eager to be fucked up the butt simply because he likes it. I choose to see Zoro as someone who would happily make/let someone fuck him if that's what makes him hot (I choose to see most characters like that, because sexuality is a complicated thing), and I've had it hammered into me by real life gay men that a guy's build, clothes or even behavior can't be used as a way of telling whether he would like to bottom or not. Something about Zoro's looks and personality makes me happy in my pants when I read about him bottoming. I don't think there's anything weird about it ( ... )

It's quite ironic that I can't express myself very clearly in a post that asks others to do so. My apologies.

However, I've experienced that the majority of fandom don't see things that way.

So I have requested Zoro affected by sex pollen or something to help people wrap their heads around the thought and make my chances of getting to read about bottom-Zoro a bit higher.(nods) That's kinda the vibe I've thought I've gotten from at least some of those requests ( ... )

Some people also like to see Sanji, Luffy or Usopp get fucked. YMMV but the size/manliness comparison doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it.

I personally don't understand why it's a big deal who's on top. I think my favourite character is sexy fun topping and he's sexy fun bottoming. But apparently that's just me.

I'm actually tempted create special circumstances if I suspect the requester wants a more submissive version of a character than the way I see them. Is it better not to answer the request? I'm not sure. Also I think I've made a few wrong calls in the past anyway. So maybe it's just better to write the request the way I'd write it and not try to interpret other hints. It's all a bit confusing to me.
