TMI? anonymous April 3 2009, 04:37:55 UTC
I've seen this happen a couple times over the course of the meme...is anyone else a little weirded out when a requesting anon feels the need to add one or more paragraphs (sometimes longer than the prompt itself) about how sick/depressed/bored/unlucky/horny/single they are? This is an anonymous fic meme, not anyone's personal livejournal.

Last time I saw it happen the whole thing dissolved into "poor baby" buttpats, and surely that just doesn't belong here.

No, it doesn't really bother me.

Was this triggered by the "Wah, I burned soup, please let Sanji fail and suffer with me!" request?

Random anon found that request quite amusing in an evil way and thought it was cute (and evil) wanting Sanji to suffer also...

What's your opinion on this? anonymous April 4 2009, 08:34:05 UTC
So, you've made a request. And then somebody comes along and wants to do something for it that doesn't really follow the prompt you made, just a tiny part of it that wasn't really the point. Would you consider it rude to say "no, thank you, not really what I'm looking for"? Once a request has been filled, people are more likely to pick it up, even if the thing it was filled with doesn't really fit the request. Do you think it's just greedy of a requester to say no to something like that in hopes of getting their request filled the way they want?

(OP) Once a request has been filled, people are more likely to pick it up

That was supposed to be less likely. *smacks forehead*

I don't think it's rude, fitting the request is the point, so as long as the no thank-you is polite, I think it's fine.

Anon is getting this strange urge to go searching through old Luffy prompts with a new eye and bombard the requesters with "CAN IT BE LUFFYKO?"

She wants to know if people will throw things at her for this.

Need moar Luffyko.

Maybe... but probably only soft and/or sticky stuff.

Anon has only requested Luffy sticking his dick in people. Futa Luffyko?

Wasn't me. *whistles innocently*

Strap-on Luffyko would actually work incredibly well with one of my requests now that I think about it, the "Luffy fucks Zoro while dressed in drag, Zoro protests that he should be the one on top" one. Aww, poor Luffyko misses hir balls.

THIS SHOULD BE OUR THEMESONG! anonymous April 12 2009, 05:15:14 UTC
I'm not sure if anyone still checks this thread, but I had this stuck in my head today, and then I read the discussion page, and I was all sad cause there was so much anger, and then I was like, wait... THIS SHOULD BE OUR THEMESONG!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ
In case people are too lazy to click on the link, It's that discovery commercial that goes "I LOVE THE WHOLE WORLD BOOM DE YADA BOOM DE YADA"
So I was watching it with my kinky fanforall lenses on, and it was really funny how well some of the lines saying what people loved could be applied to us...
For instance, "I love the ocean, I love real dirty things <3" or "I love hot magma I love the giant squids" (tentacle rape!)
So yeah. Our themesong, this.
right now.

I wonder if Zoro would love or hate giant squids? Hmm...

Has anyone done this, and did it work? anonymous April 14 2009, 19:44:18 UTC
I love this meme. But I think I need a break. I have suddenly found myself unable to just ignore the things that annoy me (I don't troll, but I get annoyed to the point where I'm actually angry and start plotting random bashing fic, which is bad).

What I want to know is: has anyone here taken a 100% break from the meme and come back feeling happier and filled with new enthusiasm? I'm afraid I won't want to come back if I leave, or that nothing will have changed once I come back, so if anyone has any positive or negative stories about meme breaks I'd love to hear them.

I think it depends on what annoys you. Some things aren't likely to change, some things may seem like less of a big deal if you take a breather, some things might be helped by making use of alternatives like the safe-meme (which needs some love anyway).

I've taken breaks before, and the stuff that drove me up the wall seems to have died off. Dunno how helpful that is, but it's one good outcome anyway. :)

(OP) Sadly, I doubt that the thing that annoys me will ever go away, and it seems like "it" is just getting worse. Nothing the safe meme can help with either, and a meme without people is no fun. *sigh* I guess all I can do is leave and hope that I'm a better person when I come back.

Thank you for your input.

Would it be possible for you to say what's bothering you? I mean we're all anon, it's not like anyone can harass you over it later, and maybe discussing it in a more detailed way will be helpful?

There ARE people on the safe meme, for what it's worth. I read both, and the safememe has a couple works-in-progress going on already. It's just a matter of getting enough of a variety of requests that more people see something they want to write, since every meme has to start off small. Just pointing that out though, obviously you should do whatever you feel will work best for you.
