well these past few years in kpop have been illusion-shattering in a way i haven't experienced in a while, and i've been a fan for at least 15 years. this whole thing, the parasocialness of the fans and the extent of mobilization against an idol who destroyed the boyfriend/girlfriend veneer, was straight out of the books of 1st gen. sometimes you think kpop is finally growing up and growing out of this bullshit, that there is SOME change in the industry (no matter how slow), and then they pull the rug out from under you. companies just have gotten much better at marketing, like pretending their idols are more involved in the creative process, or some kind of perceived authenticity (which is the trend now in the western market), desperation to appeal to the western market by detangling from "The Dark Sides Of Kpop", but the people are ultimately just as much of a commodity as before (if not more). i'm not even a fan so this probably doesn't warrant a reaction this strongly from my end, but between this + taeil + zionist bullshit + hybe ( ... )

I'll never forget when I learned that they wanted to throw Joon out of GOD for getting a girlfriend. And he was like... almost 30 because homeboy is old as all get out.

lol I remember that…I had a Korean mean girl in high school who bullied me in high school and middle school. She was a Stan of GOD at the time, and she went berserk over Joon getting a girlfriend. Like all she would talk about was Joon and how he betrayed his fans or some shit.

I don't know why she would stan Joon. It's like stanning Danny Wood in KNOTB. Why THAT one?

what the actual fuck is wrong with these people? I refuse to call them fans, they're too unhinged to be considered that. What's after unhinged because whatever it is, these people are that. These weirdos need to get a new hobby and touch grass.

Like another commenter said, I'm tired of the craziest people being enabled.

Also like

SM kept this guy on ice for a YEAR. For the unforgiveable crime of having a girlfriend pre-debut????

Then they finally brought him back.

Only to then cave to the pressure of unhinged fans after like 2 days and kicking him out again.

SM completely fucked this guy over. I feel awful for him. Is he still under contract with SM even after being kicked out of Riize? Probably, I'd guess.

ALSO ALSO

Like SM is still trying to convince us that they knew nothing about Taeil being under investigation until it went public and then they kicked him out of NCT. But I don't belieeeeeeve them. I think they knew in June and still let Taeil, the gang rapist, participate in fan meets in July.

But that was ok. Being under investigation for gang rape = ok.

Having a girlfriend pre-debut = unforgivable sin, I guess.

I'm curious if he remains with SM as his agency after all of this, too!

I think SM would have to let him go or maybe he'd have to file for contract termination and could use this shitstorm as evidence of mistreatment?

I hope SM does let him go and he's able to sign with someone else and have a successful career elsewhere. Because SM treated him like shit for no reason.

Considering how shitty this management company is they probably have him locked in a contract. They don't want to use him, but they don't want anyone else using him either, and it's a terrible position for a creative to be in.

This is legitimately gross. I am glad he can escape this and move on with his life but…I don’t know. I feel incredibly done with SM.

He didn’t do anything wrong. Sending funeral wreathes is horrifically toxic, and now it’s been rewarded. Stop apologizing to these people.

The whole “you can’t have an opinion because you’re in the West!!” is bullshit too, this is nasty bullying behavior and you don’t have to be local to see it.

I hope he lives a lovely, happy life. He deserves it.

Who the fuck thinks sending anyone a funeral wreath while they're still living is appropriate? Not just the expense, but how fucked up a person do you have to be to even do something like this?

Kpop fans do this shit way more than you'd think. It just usually doesn't work.

Esport fans even more unhinged. My brother who is into Esport said they even brought it to the hospital where a player were staying.

Wow, this is incredibly fucked up!!! Fuck those delusional ass "fans" and fuck SM for never protecting their artists. I thought SM had finally done something right by their artist, but of course in true fashion, they did not. The fandom culture is incredibly fucked up there. I've been in the K-Pop fandom since 2013 and that is something I'll never be used to. And I hate the "you're not from here so you don't know the culture/can't have an opinion" argument. There are plenty of Korean netizens who do not share that mindset, you're just too close minded and delusional. Go out, breathe some air and touch grass. your faves are HUMAN BEINGS.

So glad 5/9 of EXO are out of SM, hoping the others follow soon, and I hope CBX follow with their lawsuit.

That's what gets me. I've been a (slowly becoming former) k-pop fan since 2011/2012. How can you look at how SM treats even their top-selling idols (like Baekhyun and Taeyeon) and say that the company cares about the idols, let alone the fans? Open your eyes.

They only care about money and not causing a fuss, they have no idea. And the Korean culture argument? Please. Stop marketing your sh!t (goods, music, dances, lyrics, slang, fans again...) off the backs off Western and BLACK artists and then maybe we can talk about culture.

SM is such a dumpster fire, I feel so bad for Seunghan but also the other 6 members who are gonna lose a shit ton of fans over this.

It's such a dangerous precedent that is only going to empower and embolden these parasocial k-losers, many of them women in their 40s who were mad cuz they couldn't have the fantasy of taking a 20 year old's virginity.
