Lynch and the passengers were celebrating Lynch's acquittal on fraud charges for billions for the sale of his company to HP.

Oop 💅 bye

From what I've read about the case, it probably was MOSTLY innocent - HP just regretted their poor business decisions later and fired the exec who approved the deal 5 weeks after he signed off on it. HP vetted his company poorly and regretted it later. People expected since he was found guilty in a civil suit in the UK, he'd be guilty in the US, but nope, he was acquitted. Not to say he was a good person or anything, but tbh it sounded like HP really fucked up on their end and tried to blame someone else for an £11 billion oopsie. https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/jun/06/mike-lynch-fraud-trial-acquittal-autonomy-explained

In 2023, the British judge found him liable for civil fraud in the matter, and in a separate trial, one of his co-conspirators was found guilty and I believe sentenced to five years in prison. It was a surprise that he was acquitted in the SF trial, most experts thought he would be found guilty, regardless of HP's vetting or lack of vetting the deal.

Yeah, let’s celebrate the death of a barely adult girl, because her rich dad was found not guilty of fraud.

They found them all dead, I think his daughter's body is the only one still not found....

Alsooooo 👀 👀

"The aura of misfortune? only deepened when it emerged that Stephen Chamberlain, 52, a former vice president of finance for Mr. Lynch’s former company and a co-defendant in the fraud case, was killed two days earlier, when he was hit by a car while jogging near his house in England."

This sounds like something that happens when everyone involved got cursed.

I think it's being cursed (I've been researching and deep-diving the huge role that luck plays in people's lives and it's so unfair bc I have none and it's also fascinating, but also sucks bc the odds are against you if you have a shitty childhood ( ... )

The other guy that was part of the same case was hit by a car on Saturday and died and now this.

Freaky.

Yooo, what was the case? What did they do?? Because two people involved in the same case dying a week apart can't be a coincidence...😶

i mean, it would be weird if the second guy was the only victim but this was a weather related event.

I don't think the deaths are on purpose but it is just one of those freaky coincidences.

I just read an article with the manufacturer, they said that this yacht is basically unsinkable … unless you do something like leave portholes open during a storm which lets lots of water in 💀

I read that too and it sounds like a bs claim to cover their asses and shift blame elsewhere. Nothing that's human-made is ever going to be actually indesctructable, there's just no way to ensure that.

oh yeah, unsinkable never means truly unsinkable, but this vessel was built to withstand very high winds like these so I'm curious about the open hatches/doors/windows theories.

As a sailboat noob, I wonder if it made a difference that they were anchored. As in having too much resistance against the force, so instead of getting pushed away, you receive the full impact?
