I just read an article with the manufacturer, they said that this yacht is basically unsinkable … unless you do something like leave portholes open during a storm which lets lots of water in 💀

I read that too and it sounds like a bs claim to cover their asses and shift blame elsewhere. Nothing that's human-made is ever going to be actually indesctructable, there's just no way to ensure that.

oh yeah, unsinkable never means truly unsinkable, but this vessel was built to withstand very high winds like these so I'm curious about the open hatches/doors/windows theories.

As a sailboat noob, I wonder if it made a difference that they were anchored. As in having too much resistance against the force, so instead of getting pushed away, you receive the full impact?

tbf the most common incidents back then were ship-to-ship collisions and groundings which the Olympic Class could easily survive with the compartment set-up and double-bottom. Had the Titanic hit the iceberg head-on, it most likely would’ve been fine (save for a few possible fatalities cause of the the whole "unstoppable force meeting an immovable object" thing).

Did they not learn from the titanic?

unsinkable always means "as unsinkable as we can make it with the current technology, and if there is no human error or freak accidents"😂

Nothing is unsinkable.
But that yacht was beautiful, so elegant looking. I love sailing yachts much more than the other ones that look like buildings.

If a waterspout hit it, that jawn was flipped over.
