as expensive as it is (and no doubt we have plenty of problems), NYC will always feel like a weird haven in this country

I know there are good people who live in those states who don't deserve to be stuck in such shitholes, but it's so disheartening seeing the majority of people who live there continue to vote in people who keep their states such awful places to live.

This is definitely true of #1. All of the major cities vote blue but it doesn't matter because Abbott and the Republican-majority TX Lege are fucking ghouls.

I'm legit baffled people keep voting for Ted Cruz - who I am convinced has a shame kink at this point....

Every time those GQP conservative christofacist assholes and their followers attack Houston/Harris County I want to sacrifice them to the next big hurricane.

I know Texas has awful laws but putting it 1 seems odd. They talk about how there’s an influx of young people and a lot of economic opportunity - I see that as potential for change and a changing demographic (which is what seems to be happening if you look at recent elections). I would think Oklahoma or Arkansas, with less growth potential would be worse but idk I don’t live in any of these places…

texas is an interesting case. while there has been a lot of internal migration to the state, much of that migration is right wingers moving to texas from blue states.

there is also the fact that a lot of latin american voters in texas have shifted to the right, particularly in the rio grande valley. rather than demographics being destiny in texas it has undergone something of a realignment.

ofc, voter suppression also continues to be a major issue, and gerrymandering is a problem on the state level and in house races. but there are a lot of other factors as to why blue texas hasn’t happened and is probably still a ways away from happening. ofc it is worth investing in but i do think a clear eyed view of the political reality is important. texas isn’t georgia or arizona.

This makes sense, thank you. My view may be skewed because I know a few gay women that moved down to Houston + know a few other liberal people that have moved to the state.

big cities virtually everywhere are very blue tbh but in texas the suburbs are still pretty red, especially as republicans from the north move there.

i think a really interesting statistic is that beto o’rourke actually narrowly won in 2022 amongst native texans! but amongst the newer migrants to texas he was absolutely slaughtered which made the difference in re-electing abbott.

How the hell is Florida so low. This place sucks in all of those areas.

Tbf the other states mention are more red than Florida.

Tbh I thought Texas would be competing with Florida for the #1 spot - but of course TX likes to outdo itself and be the best at being the literal worst in the country.

yeahhh I'm a born and raised Angeleno and I don't foresee myself being able to own an home in my city... like ever. And I don't wanna pay the crazy rent so gonna be continuing to live with my parents for the foreseeable future.

I'm a Coloradan and while I'm proud of some things with my state, I don't want to go back. I've spent the last 8 years with public transport away from a body of water and while I'm miserable, I know it's not because of that. i need my liberal bubble to keep going lmao

I’m in the same position as well as another Southern Californian. The same house model on the same street as my childhood home that my parents bought for $200k is now selling for $700k. It’s a 2-bedroom house ffs!!!
