I believe it about Florida. I've seen a ton of jobs available in my field there in education and the private sector and it's because they aren't attracting people from elsewhere, and the people who normally would take those jobs are leaving in droves. When your creative class is leaving that says A LOT about your state.

housing is a major major problem in Florida. it's gone down in other parts of the country but not here. there's just a massive shortage and then the hurricane last year just made it worse. I know when I was in the hospital down here last year, all the nurses were travel nurses from like, 8-10 hours away because they can't afford housing down here.

Well congrats to Mississippi for not being in the bottom 10.

I was genuinely surprised not to see it appear on this list. It might be #11 though.

And the best state to live in is Vermont by this same metric.

4. Minnesota

5. Hawaii

6. Oregon

7. Washington

8. Colorado

8. Massachusetts (it was a tie)

10. Connecticut

lol money has nothing to do with it. texas has the second highest GDP per capita of any state in the country (behind CA) and FL is in the top 5 but they're on the worst place to live ranking in this post

As someone who lives in tx, we should list it at #1 on all of these types of lists so people from California can stop coming over here and hiking up rent prices.

I don't think that's gonna help. The people who are moving from CA to TX are moving there BECAUSE of the stuff that got Texas to #1 on this list.

As a native Bay Area Californian, I feel the same way about the out of staters moving here for cushy tech jobs and hiking up COL and congesting traffic with their stupid Teslas. Which also coincidentally drives part of the outward migration of natives to other states where buying a home isn't just a pipe dream...

I'm honestly surprised Arizona wasn't listed but maybe the metrics were more business-minded than actual livability. It's not even cheap anymore now that so many people have moved here.

And this damn weather... I'm sick of the heat! I wanna move away. D:

The highest temp I've ever experienced in Melbourne, AU was 117F* i think, with single digit humidity and gale force winds. Opening a window was like opening an oven door - look up black saturday bushfires 2009 to see what happened as a result :(

*there was a big drop in temperature in the afternoon to about 85F but with a large increase in humidity which was still miserable, just in a different way. The coming el nino years will make our 2019/2020 heatwave and bushfires seem like a quaint memory

i always have hope for my home state.
arizona really has some of the most beautiful nature on offer and the sky is just unmatched. i always suspected it growing up but after having travelled around the world i can confirm that arizona is one of the most beautiful places!
phoenix is blah, but i'm a tucson stan. if i were to move back i'd live in tucson or flagstaff if i wanted to escape the heat. i used to think prescott was so cute when i was child but i'm pretty sure they're still holding trump tuesday rallies there so i'll pass.
