That is rather dire. I guess my question is: Do you need to keep this psychiatrist on side? i.e. if they are not providing anything useful then by all means do whatever you can to get what you need disregarding alienating her
( ... )
I think it is very naughty of your psych to explicitly say you shouldn't have private therapy and then to say that the services she referred you to can't help umpteen months down the line
( ... )
I love the NHS, but it is very naughty about referrals which don't work and not taking responsibility for the individual who is bounced from pillar to post without the support they need.
plan a: make a written complaint to complaints department of the mental health trust. being "complicated" isn't a good enough reason to leave you with nothing: if the trust's psychology service can't help you then they need to look further afield to find someone who can - you have a life to be getting on with ffs. also, the NICE guidelines on BPD have recently been published, i haven't had the spoons to read them yet but they may contain something useful to help you kick some arse.
plan b: if that goes nowhere, write to your MP. i know of several people with "complicated" issues whose MPs have helped them get decent services. given the current political agenda re: welfare reform, the fact that your main impetus for wanting to get yourself sorted is so that you can get back to work will help you a great deal, i should think.
and fwiw, my psychiatrist was always incredibly wary of me having private therapy, and actively tried to persuade me to stop seeing my therapist (whilst i was an inpatient!!!!) despite the fact that he was offering me *nothing* by way of a replacement *fumes* his main issue seemed to be the fact that, ultimately, it was out of his control if the therapy didn't happen within the mental health team. your psychiatrist probably feels the same. idiots, the lot of them!
Ah if you see someone privately they can't just access your notes and find out what's going on, even though I'm sure you could see "one of their" therapists and insist your notes are kept private or agree/permit psychs to see private notes.
All so stupid. Interconnected services? Nah, too sensible!

I do think you should use your connections and get some more support. You shouldn't have to keep going at it alone.
