Yesterday I got another one of those emails that I typically toss out without reading it through. For some reason this one caught my attention and by the time I was done I was glad I hadn't tossed it. During the many chats, emails, postings etc that I've shared with you all we've mentioned along the way at different times how violence effects us. ( Read more... )

"What if they have a gun? So what. ...I'm not sure how accurate these statistics are ...it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ."

This sounds like very bad advice to me. I will not risk it, thank you very much.

I think I might. IF and that's a big IF any of the stats in these things is true they say leaving with an abductor that is armed is giving you a very good chance of not being returned alive. Truth is, none of us can say what we'd do until it happened. I'm hoping it never happens to you or anyone else. I need ya here! Bob is still needing to be dealt with LOL Seriously, I do hope we all grow old safely. :)

I hope so too. And you're right - there really is no way of knowing how we might react given any situations. It is good to have ideas stored just in case.

actually, if you are not close to begin with, then it does make sense. Otherwise, kick the hell out of him hard and then run.

Don't sit in your car to make lists, write notes, fix makeup etc. Get in your car and go, sitting there, particularly with the doors unlocked with your mind occupied on something else can leave you vulnerable.

Also, don't talk on your cell phone while driving. Not only does it make you look like you're busy, but it annoys the hell out of other drivers. Also, that's how accidents happen. So don't do all that stuff mentioned earlier, lock your car doors, buckle your seatbelt (especally if you live in New Jersey because the cops really nail you for that) & don't talk on a cell phone while driving.

I think that covers it.

Not too long ago, I was parking in our local mall, and this big SUV drives by VERY fast and nearly clipped the door I was opening to get my kids out ( ... )

Sounds like a real twit to me! I hate seeing people driving with cell phones stuck to their ears too. There was one on the highway a few weeks ago cruising along at 30km in a 110 km zone!! I was worried because I thought maybe they were having engine troubles til I got up beside them. IDIOTS! Get the hell off the road! Should have taken down her plate numbers Joe, I'd not have let her away with it.

Since she'd done nothing WRONG per se, there was not more that I could do besides the tongue-lashing.

However, I recently saw a bumper sticker I want to buy -- WOULD YOU DRIVE ANY BETTER IF YOU HAD THAT PHONE STUCK UP YOUR ASS??

I agree with everything you said. We have become immune to feeling what our brothers and sisters are going through or have gone through. I can remember as a kid not being allowed to watch Crime Story on Friday night tv because it was considered too violent. See what's on tv lately? And drugs! You know what, I wouldn't have a clue what the majority of drugs today even looked like. We thought we were badasses? HA! No, we had nothing on what goes on today. We never had the fear a classmate might kill us because we had a brand named jacket (those few who did!!) How do we fix it? Can we fix it now or has too much time passed? I think we can. But that takes effort and effort is a hard thing to get a majority to give. They'll toss 5.00 into the salvation army tin at Christmas but how many would get together to really fight violence? How many of your neighbors would be willing to come over when the ex in laws are there and stand beside you against them? Probably as many as mine - zero. Sad reality isn't it?

And one other time that I almost got kidnapped, I was in the 6th grade, it was just getting dark and I was riding my bike home from my friends house. This guy (I will never forget him as long as I live, still gives me goosebumps), was in this white car, had very long dirty blonde hair, pimples, a leather jacket and his steering wheel was that kind that looks like chains.

Well he drove slowly next to me, was trying to talk to me saying he will give me a ride home. I ignored him and was scared. I rode past a school, then a creek afraid he was going to grab me any time, and the first house I came to after the creek, I rode up, dropped my bike and opened the screen door like I lived there. As soon as I opened the screen door he peeled off really fast. I waited a few minutes to make sure he was gone and rode home as fast as I could. I never stayed out that late again.

Geez that's awful! Guys like this should be strung up! I'm so glad you had the sense to get away. It's a shame there are many girls and boys too that would fall for such things. Did you ever see that episode of Oprah where they had a hidden camera watching as kids who were apparently taught NOT to go with strangers were lured away? The parents were shocked at how easily it was done. I know, I've talked to my kids too but I fear no matter what we say there will always be a way for someone to get their attention. Just pray daily it never happens!

Yes I did...and they did one like that last week of Ricky Lake, thats when I had that discussion with the kids. They covered...strangers, guns...I cant remember what else. It was scary and I even cried when the kids on hidden cam went with the strangers!

Good tips...but I refuse to run if someone has a gun at me and is at close range. BTW, I'm Amy...I saw you on some of my friend's friend's lists and read your bio and saw you had MS. My sister has it too. You seemed pretty neat, so I added you. I hope you don't mind. =)
