4.04: Time for some thrilling heroics.

Jul 02, 2007 18:31

The Mainframe populace go about their business as usual, if disturbingly cheerfully. The air is filled with cars and zipboards, not CPUs and tanks.

Everything's quiet, more or less.

Of course, given the group that's just coming in from Milliways, that's not liable to last long.

First through the door is their native guide, ready to explain features of his world or give directions to the bathroom if anyone forgot to go before.

Bruck glances around when he steps through the door. A hallway. A pretty normal hallway, even if it might look a little...odd. "So...where are we, Enzo?"

"My house. It's in Beverly Hills. That's my room," he adds, pointing to one door; it's closed, though.

"Ah...your door opened from the hall into the Bar, then?" I can see why he was so upset when he saw it glowing...

Enzo beckons his team leftward from the house and down the block. This street is currently empty, praise the User. "I think they'll be at the Principal Office. ...Hang on." He pulls up and looks down at Frisket, galloping alongside. "Can you find 'em, Frisket?"

Frisket sniffs at the ground and sneezes. There's too much virus-scent all over everything; he can't pick out anything else. He looks up at Enzo and whines.

Enzo scratches Frisket behind the ears. "That's okay, boy. They're prob'ly there." And if not, well, they'll keep looking 'til they find them.

Bruck is alongside Enzo. He's...still getting used to the zip board, and probably making for just a little bit of comedy in the process. "Which way to the Principal Office?"

"It's thatta way." The bot pipes up, pointing over to a large spherical structure in the distance than you really... can't miss.

Daemon and her messenger have been hard at work; there is only one Tear left unstabilized, only one system left uninfected. Bob struggles to stay conscious through the pain and weakness brought on by his damaged code. He would like nothing more than to stop and rest, but his duty is not yet complete.

I must finish what I began. For my Lady. For the Word.

Summoning all his strength, he forces his energies out toward the Tear, which blossoms into a portal... and then he drops like a rock.

"Bob!" cries Dot in a panic--but Daemon holds out a hand, and Bob's descent comes to an abrupt halt in midair. The virus gently guides him down to rest on the roof near Dot, then turns her attention to the new portal. A single touch, and the green tendrils of the Word spread through the connected system.

"My function is complete." She fingers her hourglass pendant. "Now it is just a matter of time."

Daemon has spent the last few cycles with Mike the TV. Danny's going to have to be a lot more annoying to match that.

The supervirus turns toward Danny and Hellboy with a friendly smile. "Hello. I don't remember seeing you before..."

The Principal Office doors burst open, and out leaps Hexadecimal.

But this isn't the trembling white sprite Daemon left on the steps a few nanos before. This is Hexadecimal, the Queen of Chaos, a nightmare in red and black, her cracked mask/face frozen in a snarl of rage.

"GET AWAY FROM MY SPRITE!" she roars, blasting Daemon with an energy beam that sends her flying.

Hell hath no fury like a Chaos Virus scorned.

"Or, alternately, explode."

Far ahead in the flying virus' path, a young blue sprite with bright red hair steps out into the street and glances to one side, then flicks her head abruptly in Daemon's direction.

A large, decrepit truck bearing the inscription "TWO SMALL SPRITES WITH BIG CPUS TRANSFERRING COMPANY" snaps into view. Daemon heads one way. The truck heads the other. And when they meet, in midair above the city...

BOOM.

Enzo, standing in the PO doorway, gapes in awe.

Best. Way. To end a war. EVER.

Bruck is...well, he's not thrown off his feet, since he's on his zipboard, but he does get thrown off balance and drift a few feet thanks to the shockwaves. And then, he looks up and sees the fireball from the explosion. WOW...never seen anything like that before.
