oh sweetie. just what you need. hope things work out.

oh. and never touch u-haul. penske is your magic answer. they're cheaper, often as much as 50% cheaper, have more reliable younger vehicles, much better customer service. i'd recommend them hands down over u-haul any day.

also. when driiving cross country, get a book of hot springs and stop at them on the way. it makes it all much, much more easier to deal with

Definitely seconding Penske. We used them to move from Boston to California a couple years ago and had nothing but good things to say about them, even when we ran into problems (not their fault, and they corrected it cheerfully for us).

I hadn't thought of them! Just checked, and they might almost be doable...

Thanks. :} I had checked other places but didn't think of Penske... just checked, and they're quite a lot less expensive. Hmm! This might just be doable yet....

There is also the option of getting rid of the larger pieces of your furniture and picking up new stuff from Craigslist when you get there.

I'm sorry things are going to poorly for you and all I can offer is hugs over the internet. :/

*internet hugs*

Having worked for the Evil Moving-truck Empire(Uhaul), I know they will overcharge you hundreds of dollars if they think they can get away with it. Call around for other DIY options, and call the pros, too.

I did; I quoted Uhaul 'cause it was cheapest I'd found. But now Penske is, and I haven't poked at pros yet. ::has some small hope now::

We used ABF-U-Pack and they were very good.

I looked at them as one of the first options, but they quoted $4000+...

What's in Oregon?

I ask because my last friend who moved to Oregon because they hated everywhere else found out that he hated Oregon, too. Not the best employment rates, either, so make sure you already have a job before you move!

Other than that - it's beautiful up there!

No stinky gas on your hands thumbcat June 19 2006, 18:47:26 UTC
I think the answer to that question is obvious. Full service gas stations everywhere.

California is the place to be, my friend. Unless you hate traffic, high real-estate prices, triple-didgit summer temperatures, smog, etc. But you grew up with all that stuff, so no biggie.

By the way, what's the word on whether or not you and your potentially blue hair will make it out to the dual July weddings? It's OK if you can't do it, with all the troubles you're having. You might want to ask Tim about moving advice. He and Ali just moved their junk from the East coast too.

Best,

Mike
