I ask because my last friend who moved to Oregon because they hated everywhere else found out that he hated Oregon, too. Not the best employment rates, either, so make sure you already have a job before you move!

I think the answer to that question is obvious. Full service gas stations everywhere.
California is the place to be, my friend. Unless you hate traffic, high real-estate prices, triple-didgit summer temperatures, smog, etc. But you grew up with all that stuff, so no biggie.
By the way, what's the word on whether or not you and your potentially blue hair will make it out to the dual July weddings? It's OK if you can't do it, with all the troubles you're having. You might want to ask Tim about moving advice. He and Ali just moved their junk from the East coast too.

Yay full-service stations! I haaaaaaaate pumping gas...
I'm gonna be there for your wedding for certain, Mike. I haven't received an invitation for Tim's so I haven't been trying to get there in time for it... if I =am= invited I hope someone tells me soon so I can work out how to do it! And I'd love his moving advice... feel free to give him my email address, if he's lost it, 'cause I don't think I have one that'll work for him at the moment.
I don't hate everywhere else. Actually, I've liked everywhere I've lived. But I can't cope with the summer weather here.
Oregon -- specifically Eugene -- has: * Close friends in the city and within driving distance (~4hrs) * Nice weather * A lower cost of living than CA, Portland, or Seattle * No sales tax * Full serve gas ;) * Seemingly good, flexible schools * Multiple jobleads for the Boy * A CC with a program in what the Boy wants to study, and only a 90-day residence requirement for in-state tuition * A university * Ocean in driving distance * Much closer to my family * Much closer to Boy's family * A nice blue-state kinda attitude * West-coast-ness * Trader Joe's! ;)
...among other things. And I can't really work anyway, so me having a job first is not a real issue. Be nice if the Boy did, but the jobs we found want you to apply through the Oregon Employment Office.

Other than that - it's beautiful up there!
