But this wasn't his Shadow. He had to remember that. If this was somehow really him, then it was his duty to help them get back to wherever they came from.
"No one calls me Shikamaru," he said to Temari. "It's just 'Shika' around here." He let go of the knife in his pocket and relaxed just slightly. "You'll be in a lot less danger once we get up to Terra. I'll be taking you to my apartment, then we'll figure out where to go from there."

"Shika it is." Temari pushed off from the wall, glancing between the two Nara in the room. That was going to take some getting used to, there was no way around it. "And what do you mean, up to Terra?"
Since they were clearly on their way out, she snagged the duffle bag that had appeared in the room with her. Currency and a change of clothes was not something she intended to leave behind. The plan currently was to follow Shika, but it could change in an instant.

"And does the sky always look like that?" he added, jerking his head in the direction of the window.

He glanced out the window too, frowning. "Down here it's not so weird for the sky to look polluted, but today it's been like that all over the city. Happened a couple weeks ago too, in Terra. It's not normal but the news says it's no big deal. I don't trust it anyway. I don't think it's a coincidence this happened and then you guys showed up."

The idea that they were an anamoly, like the sky, was tucked away in the back of her mind. If the authorities were keeping quiet about the sky, and the shinobi world was a secret, then they might be in more trouble than she originally thought.
Temari glanced over at Shikamaru. She didn't believe in coincidences any more than Shika.

"Did new people arrive the last time this happened too, or something else?

"As far as I know, this is the first time anyone showed up," he answered... himself. Funny, this wasn't getting any less strange. "The only weird thing that happened before was we got some neon green snow. If someone did appear, it must've been covered up faster than the police could've heard about it, because I didn't catch anything around the station."
He glanced over his shoulder warily, out at the hallway. "I think that's enough question-answer time for now. If they declare an emergency and close the border, we're really screwed. You ( ... )

"Close the border? Never mind, we can talk once we're somewhere secure. If there's a better option, I don't want to be stranded here." Temari was already dressed in the clothes that seemed to be the norm here, jeans and a sleeveless tee shirt. She'd gotten used to clothes like this while in Facility 3, so it barely registered. The Suna symbol was pulled from her belt loop and dropped into the duffle bag. For whatever reason, she thought it would be best to keep it out of sight. "Ready whenever you are."

That answer from the other boy irked him a little bit in a strange way. Complacency was dangerous (no matter how tempting it was to fall into, as he'd learned in the Facility very quickly), and Shika's accusations earlier of his own murderous intent implied that something like this had happened before... but he'd hold his questions for now.
The Nara slung his bag over one shoulder and glanced down at himself almost appraisingly. His regular clothing was perfectly normal by civilian standards when the vest was removed, but he'd be damned before he put all his weapons out of immediate reach. This would have to do. He did, however, after only a moment of hesitation, reach up and detach the leaf from the simple mount on his sleeve, tucking it away and out of sight.
"Let's go."

He paused for a second, then smirked grimly. "Oh yeah, and since you guys are so chatty about shinobi business, I guess I've gotta remind you about what's common sense here: don't pull any weird stunts where people can see you unless your life's in danger. Not too long ago, Muties were being rounded up for execution, and even if we've got free passes now people still don't take kindly to us showing off powers." With that cheerful bit of news, he was out the door.
