This was way more unnerving than he would've liked to admit. His parents were long dead, he'd never had any blood relations, so he'd never seen someone who looked remotely like him, let alone exactly like him. If something like this could exist, then what Deidara had told him was right, and his theory about his Shadow could be true, and that alone was terrifying.

But this wasn't his Shadow. He had to remember that. If this was somehow really him, then it was his duty to help them get back to wherever they came from.

"No one calls me Shikamaru," he said to Temari. "It's just 'Shika' around here." He let go of the knife in his pocket and relaxed just slightly. "You'll be in a lot less danger once we get up to Terra. I'll be taking you to my apartment, then we'll figure out where to go from there."

Her eyes lingered on his pocket for a moment, perfectly aware that there was a weapons hidden there, but let it go. If they were going to get any sort of useful information, there would have to be some show of trust.

"Shika it is." Temari pushed off from the wall, glancing between the two Nara in the room. That was going to take some getting used to, there was no way around it. "And what do you mean, up to Terra?"

Since they were clearly on their way out, she snagged the duffle bag that had appeared in the room with her. Currency and a change of clothes was not something she intended to leave behind. The plan currently was to follow Shika, but it could change in an instant.

Shikamaru thumbed at the cigarette's in his pocket before following Temari's lead, stepping closer to the other him and snagging up the similar duffle he'd dropped upon entering the room. Supplies were supplies, no matter how out of place. It was no stranger than opening up their closets after weekly resets, anyway.

"And does the sky always look like that?" he added, jerking his head in the direction of the window.

"Terra's the next Level up," he explained, feeling strangely like some tour guide. Except he couldn't remember the last time he'd met someone who hadn't been living in NeoGenesis their entire life. Maybe where they came from, cities didn't come in Levels? "It's, um, the middle layer of the city. Abyss is the bottom and Elysium is the top. Terra's where I was born, though, and most people stay where they're born. It's nice, I guess. Compared to here, it's heaven."

He glanced out the window too, frowning. "Down here it's not so weird for the sky to look polluted, but today it's been like that all over the city. Happened a couple weeks ago too, in Terra. It's not normal but the news says it's no big deal. I don't trust it anyway. I don't think it's a coincidence this happened and then you guys showed up."

"What is it like outside of the city?"

The idea that they were an anamoly, like the sky, was tucked away in the back of her mind. If the authorities were keeping quiet about the sky, and the shinobi world was a secret, then they might be in more trouble than she originally thought.

Temari glanced over at Shikamaru. She didn't believe in coincidences any more than Shika.

Shikamaru returned Temari's glance with a silent agreement, mind clicking methodically through possibilities. He listened quietly to Shika's explanation, forming a rudimentary image of the city for himself. Three layers, likely pretty literally if the look of the sky and Shika's phrasing was any clue, and a pretty obvious class system if he was guessing right.

"Did new people arrive the last time this happened too, or something else?

"Huh? Outside the city?" That was a question people never asked. "I've never left. I mean, the city's really big, the biggest on the planet. From what I've heard, technology kind of sucks out there. Who wants to travel that far just to get stuck in the boonies, right?" To him, the trip seemed like too much of a pain to be worth it. Even when the NeoGenesis government was in turmoil last year, leaving the city was just out of the question. What would he and Hidan have done stranded in the wilderness?

"As far as I know, this is the first time anyone showed up," he answered... himself. Funny, this wasn't getting any less strange. "The only weird thing that happened before was we got some neon green snow. If someone did appear, it must've been covered up faster than the police could've heard about it, because I didn't catch anything around the station."

He glanced over his shoulder warily, out at the hallway. "I think that's enough question-answer time for now. If they declare an emergency and close the border, we're really screwed. You ( ... )

Outside in the wilderness sounded like a good back up plan if all of this went to hell.

"Close the border? Never mind, we can talk once we're somewhere secure. If there's a better option, I don't want to be stranded here." Temari was already dressed in the clothes that seemed to be the norm here, jeans and a sleeveless tee shirt. She'd gotten used to clothes like this while in Facility 3, so it barely registered. The Suna symbol was pulled from her belt loop and dropped into the duffle bag. For whatever reason, she thought it would be best to keep it out of sight. "Ready whenever you are."

Wilderness. Wilderness was doable. Not preferable if they were being given another option out of this hell-hole, but doable.

That answer from the other boy irked him a little bit in a strange way. Complacency was dangerous (no matter how tempting it was to fall into, as he'd learned in the Facility very quickly), and Shika's accusations earlier of his own murderous intent implied that something like this had happened before... but he'd hold his questions for now.

The Nara slung his bag over one shoulder and glanced down at himself almost appraisingly. His regular clothing was perfectly normal by civilian standards when the vest was removed, but he'd be damned before he put all his weapons out of immediate reach. This would have to do. He did, however, after only a moment of hesitation, reach up and detach the leaf from the simple mount on his sleeve, tucking it away and out of sight.

"Let's go."

Shika pulled his hair out of its ponytail and drew the hood of his coat up. If his clone was going out looking like that, then he needed to look as different as possible. It was something he hadn't had to worry about before, but twins were in high demand on the market. "Right, just stick close to me and don't look anyone in the eye. Once we hit the security checkpoint, conceal your weapons and let me do the talking."

He paused for a second, then smirked grimly. "Oh yeah, and since you guys are so chatty about shinobi business, I guess I've gotta remind you about what's common sense here: don't pull any weird stunts where people can see you unless your life's in danger. Not too long ago, Muties were being rounded up for execution, and even if we've got free passes now people still don't take kindly to us showing off powers." With that cheerful bit of news, he was out the door.
