Chapter 12:

There were two figures, one down, the other standing, shocked. Without thinking, Jin gave a snarl and began chasing after the attacker who had immediately taken off when he spotted the two.

“Oi! Jin!”

The other didn’t listen, and he was about to chase after him when he heard another voice, “Pi…that you?”

Pausing as the first disappeared, he turned around and headed for the fallen figure instead, “Toma, what the hell just happened!?”

“I got shot…obviously.” Toma gave a shaky grin, clutching at his bleeding side, “that was Jin with you, right?”

Pi nodded, “Yea, yea it was.”

“Good…then I’m just going insane…”

“What are you talking about?” He pulled up the other’s shirt and muttered in relief, “…the bullet went right through…here,” he pulled his jacket off, “lift your arm, I’m going to wrap it up.”

A pained chuckle, “he probably blew out my spleen…that jerk…” but he did as he was told anyways, “I thought it was Jin…”

The younger man didn’t look up from bandaging, “who was?”

“The guy that shot me…?”

Pi paused and stared at him in disbelief, “what?”

“I think I knifed him back,” he winced when the other tied the makeshift bandages tightly around his waist, “…told you I’m no good at fighting…”

The second didn’t laugh, “Damn it! I told you that you weren’t allowed to die on me!” He took a moment to inspect the damage, “You should be alright but you’ll have to come back with us to rest…”

“Thanks Pi…oh,” he tried to sit up to no avail, groaning, he lied back down, “incase I actually do die or forget…I think you need to know this…”

----------------------------

Jin frowned as the other continued running at an alarming pace even though he was clutching his arm. When he finally got close enough, he grabbed the figure’s arm and spun him around, earning him a hiss. For a moment, he realized that he should probably draw his gun incase the other decided to shoot him but froze in shock when he looked at the other.

The figure looked equally alarmed but regained his wits soon enough and tugged his arm away. He just stood there, arm falling limply at his side, “…no…it…you can’t be here…you’re dead…”

Frenzied eyes looked around, like an animal that had been cornered, “no…you’re dead! You’re dead! You can’t be-you-you’re a fake, you have to be! You can’t be real! And you can’t be him so you must be fake! He’s dead! If he wasn’t-he’d be here! He’d have come back for me!”

He took a step forward, causing the other to freeze, “…what happened to you…?”

The other looked scared as he shook his head and backed up, “you can’t be him. No, no, you can’t be. Don’t use him against me. He wouldn’t have left me alone. I know he wouldn’t so he must be dead. Yea…dead…”

Then he turned around and ran off.

Jin continued standing there staring at the spot the other had been a moment ago with wide eyes until something landed on his head softly, causing him to look up.

It was starting to rain…

Looking back at the alleyway the figure disappeared into one last time, he turned around and headed back to the other two.

----------------------------

Pi was in shock, he tightened his grasp on the other with a frown as he demanded “what are you talking about? He can’t be alive. He’s dead! With the rest of them! He died that day! They all did!”

The older man gave a shaky grin, “I know it’s hard to believe…”

“Of course it’s-Toma? Oi! Don’t pass out! You’ll really die if you do!” He looked around, “damn it Akanishi, where are you?” Raindrops began falling. Pi let go of the other and got up, with a grunt, he lifted the other up bridal style, “come on Jin…”

Just as he was about to head back, he heard a familiar voice calling him, “Pi! Is everything alright!?”

He turned around and yelled back, “hurry up! Toma was shot! He’s not going to make it if we don’t get back soon!”

Jin ran to him, “let’s go then! Do you want me to carry him?”

Pi shook his head and took off, “It’s fine, head back first, tell them to get the med kit out…and we need to talk.”

The older man nodded and ran ahead, “got it. I’ll see you back at the house then.”

----------------------------

He was drying off as he walked into the room, “how is he?”

Shige gave a tight smile, “he should be fine. Somehow, the bullet didn’t hit any of his vital organs and we stopped the bleeding so he should be just fine. He’s resting in the other room. Nakamura and Taguchi are in there with him.”

Then Jin walked in, running a towel through his hair, “make sure Taguchi doesn’t kill Toma with his jokes.”

The younger man managed to give a soft laugh, “That’s why Nakamura’s in there as well. I’m going to go see how Kei-chan’s doing.”

Pi nodded, “you go do that.” He turned to the first and motioned for the other room, “let’s go talk.”

“Yea-”

“Leader!” The two turned around at Tegoshi’s voice, “they left a message!” The pair exchanged looks and ran into the room Tegoshi had entered only to find '24 hours' written on the windows in dripping red. “…what does it mean?”

Jin didn’t look away from the window as he answered, “It means they plan on killing all of us in the next twenty-four hours.” He turned back to other with a frown as he muttered, “Let’s just hope that that’s paint they used to write that…everyone’s here, right?”

“They should be…but” the boy looked at the two, “what are we going to do now?”

The second placed a hand on the other’s shoulder, “it’ll be alright Tego. Me and Jin are going to talk for a bit then we’ll get everyone together and figure things out from there.”

Tegoshi nodded, “I’ll go wait with the others then.”

Pi gave a small smile, “Yea, you go do that. We’ll be right there.”

When the other disappeared, the two looked at the window. Jin pursed his lips, “this is serious…they know where we are at all times…how can they kill us all in a day’s time…? Damn it, it’s not safe to split up but it’s not safe to stick together either…”

“Jin, it’s not just that.”

He nodded seriously, “I know, they’ve got cards up their sleeves.”

The other paused, “what do you mean?”

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, “it makes no sense. I thought he was dead…he was supposed to be dead…but now he’s changed…”

Pi’s brows furled, “who are you talking about? Who did you see? Wait, did you see the guy that shot Toma? He thought it was you but that can’t be…”

Frowning, he looked at his friend, “Pi, it was Reio…”

----------------------------

Everyone was sitting around the couches as Jin concluded, “So it’s been decided; Pi and whoever’s been assigned into his group will lead the attack, and I’ll stay here with the injured. We have to get them before they get us.”

The group nodded, Pi looked around, “alright. My group, we’ll be leaving at three, so if you want, you can get…four hours of sleep, if not, find a way to make sure you stay awake through the whole thing. Other than that, you’re free to go.”

As everyone dispersed, the two leaders headed upstairs into separate rooms.

----------------------------

Jin rubbed his temple. He should be the one leading the attack, not Pi…

“Pi, let me do it! You should be here guarding, most of them are from your group anyways!”

A shrug, “you’ll be here so they’ll be fine.”

“Pi-”

“And Kamenashi’s here. He’s your responsibility, remember?”

“…”

“You’re the reason he’s here in the first place so you have to protect him.”

“I know that! But-”

“Then it’s fine, so let’s just drop it. I’ll lead the attack.”

“…”

A quiet voice called over from the bed, “What’s going on, Jin?”

He looked over and shrugged, “they decided to attack so we’re going to strike first. Basically, whoever gets the first hit usually gets the advantage so…”

Kame frowned and sat up, “are you…”

Jin shook his head, “no, I’m staying here incase they decide to come after the injured.”

The younger man shot him an alarmed look, “Come after the injured…? Why are they attacking you guys anyways? Shige only told me part of it…”

He sat down, “I don’t know either, all I know is that their leader used to know Tackey and Tsubasa, and something happened between them so now they’re gone and now MatsuJun decided to come after us as well.”

A hand was placed on his back, “Jin…”

“It’ll be fine, we’ve held him off before, so we can do it again,” then he added darkly to himself, “no matter what kind of trump cards he has up his sleeves…”

Kame nodded wordlessly.

The first in command stood back up, shaking away his thoughts, “We need to get through tomorrow somehow…” he pinched the bridge of his nose and began muttering to himself, “but tomorrow and onwards is going to be hell and we can’t risk sending you elsewhere, you’ll be safest here, but that’s not saying a lot…”

The younger man blinked, “…Jin?”

He shook his head, “there’s nothing we can do right now, so you should get whatever sleep you can.” Leaning against the nearest wall, he reassured the other, “I’ll stay right here, so get some rest. Tomorrow’s going to be a long day.”

A pause.

“And here,” he placed something metal on the floor beside the younger man causing the other to tense slightly, “for emergencies, incase I’m not there or something.”

Without looking, Kame knew it was a gun.

----------------------------

Jin was still there, even after he’d pretended to fall asleep. Under normal circumstances, he would’ve been happy but the anxiety and doubt overwhelmed all his other senses. Kame frowned to himself.

How did I get caught up in this…?

What if this won’t be alright? What if everyone…

Trying to clear his head of those thoughts, he snuggled into the covers and closed his eyes.

It’ll be alright…hopefully…

I’ll just believe in Jin…

----------------------------

The first in command looked at the gun he’d placed down. With that action, there were so many things he wanted to say with it but couldn’t express in words.

I don’t ever want to see you use that gun.

I don’t ever want to see you end up like us.

But when the time comes…I’d rather see you use it than die.

----------------------------

“Ryo-chan…do you ever sleep?” He asked softly to the other without expecting a reply. Sitting down on the mattress beside the other he plopped onto his back and sighed, “I don’t understand…you used to at least answer…did the voices get louder…?”

No reply.

“…you can’t even hear me anymore, is that it…?” Part of him wanted to hold the second in command, but physical signs of affection were foreign and unnatural to him so he settled for using his hands as pillows and looking away, “one day, you’re going to make me cry, you know.”

He hated how he had to fill the silence by himself, especially since he wasn’t the most talkative person around; that’d always been Ryo’s job. Pi closed his eyes and sighed, doubt washing over him, “I wonder if this is useless, we’ve lost over a third of our members and they keep getting new members…” He looked over, “hey Ryo-chan, I’m leading the first attack later. We’re going to get them before they can get us, so you don’t have to worry. I’ll make sure they don’t come anywhere near you.”

To be honest, he felt like he was twelve again, bragging and making chivalrous promises to impress the other. And Ryo would always laugh and tell him he was being stupid because they were boys, and boys were supposed to protect themselves.

But you couldn’t…none of them could…all except one apparently…

Pi looked out the window at the rain before his eyes drifted to the chain around the other’s neck. A frown touched his lips and he could feel his anger welling up as he looked at the bullet. Clenching his fists and gritting his teeth, he muttered to himself, “I’ll kill him. If he’s really still alive, I swear I’m going to kill him…that fucking traitor…”

----------------------------

It was almost time.

He got up and went over to make sure that Kame was asleep, pulling the blanket over the younger one’s shoulders he muttered, “don’t worry…I’ll protect you.”

Then he made his way over to Ryo’s room and asked through the door, “Pi, you there?”

There was a soft reply. “Hm?”

“You’ve got half an hour left. Is everything alright?”

“Yea, just give me a minute.”

“Alright.”

----------------------------

“Well I guess I should go get ready, hm?” He stretched and got up, “Ryo-chan…” he took off his jacket and wrapped it around the other’s shoulder, “this is my favorite jacket. Take care of it for me for now, alright? When I get back, let’s go for ice cream again, like we used to…”

Because by the time you’re yourself again, all of this will be over…

He gave a weak smile, “hey Ryo-chan…don’t miss me too much while I’m out, hm?”

Pi took a deep breath before putting on a stoic look and heading for the door. “…goodnight Ryo-chan.”

Let’s hope this isn’t goodbye.

----------------------------

Jin frowned as the other got ready and walked passed him without another word, “Pi.”

The third stopped.

He could feel anxiety welling up inside him as he moved and stood in front of the other. They’d both prepped for this before but it didn’t make it any easier. The rare look of despair and hopelessness in the third’s eyes spoke for him.

He doesn’t expect to come back…

Jin pursed his lips and expressed himself awkwardly, fumbling for the right words, “Oi, don’t be stupid. You know I’ve known you long enough to know what you’re thinking. This isn’t hopeless as long as we’re still alive so don’t throw your life away so carelessly. We’ll all be waiting for you back here so you better come back alive. This definitely won’t be the last time you see him, us, everyone…”

For a moment, he wondered if the other understood. But then Pi looked at him and relief flooded him. The sigh and nod the third gave told him everything he needed to know. At least the helplessness had disappeared from his eyes.

----------------------------

At the door, the two leaders stood by the door while the offensive group waited. Pi looked over, “hey Jin.” They exchanged firm handshakes, “I’ll see you later.”

Jin nodded, “Yea, you’re out of the group if you die.” He watched as the younger man flipped him off and ran into the dark and pouring rain to join his group.

We’ve already been through so much together…

You better make it back…

----------------------------

He could feel the adrenaline running through his veins, “This is it…”

They stood a block away from the other gang’s hideout.

Pi looked back at his group, raindrops dripping from his hair, “Nakamura, Koki, Tegoshi, take the sides. Ueda,” he looked down at the bandages on his arm, “are you sure about this?”

The elder gave a snort, “I’ll be fine. I only need my right arm to shoot anyways.”

“…alright, you and Shige take the back. I’ll go in front. Are you all ready?”

“Yea. Let’s do this.”

Without another word, the group made their way to the warehouse.

----------------------------

Jin looked at the clock from the stairway where he sat guard. He sighed, “…they should be there by now…if all of this works, we’ll never have to deal with Arashi again…”

A voice spoke up from above, “I can feel your anxiety all the way from upstairs…”

He looked over, “Toma, you should be resting. You almost died today.”

The other shrugged and sat down beside him with some difficulty, “Koyama armed everyone, even me, so I figured that this was serious and I should sit around with you incase anything did happen. It’s the least I can do since you guys saved my life and all that.”

Jin raised a brow and snorted, “What are you talking about? You’d be no help, even with a gun. You can’t aim to save your life, remember?”

Toma gave a strained laugh, “yea…I guess it’s just hard to sleep while Pi and his group are out there…”

He gave an absentminded hum and turned back to the doorway, “…they’ll make it back. Pi will keep them alive, and they’ll all make it back…”

----------------------------

The doors flew open as they entered and began shooting.

Pi narrowed his eyes slightly when they stopped and he realized that all the lights had been on. Looking around at the scattered fallen members of the opposing gang, he could see that there were only a couple of them.

All of their key targets were missing.

Then realization dawned on him.

They’d been expecting them to attack…

“Shit! This was a set up!”

The group headed back outside only to be surrounded by several figures, “Well, it’s been awhile, Yamashita.”

A/N: What's this!? A fastish update with emotional trauma and chaos!? And plot twists too! -gasp- Jin and Pi clearly suck at expressing themselves. The next chapter will probably be...insane (good, bad, you decide). You can probably tell I'm kind of out of it...whoo...yes...anyways, it's time for lunch. Enjoy!

Hmm...I think I'm developing a voice fetish...
