Chapter 12 Chapter 13:
Pi tensed and tightened his grip on his gun as he looked around, recognizing two of the figures. He let out in a cold tone, “Sakurai, Aiba…”
The shorter of the two sighed and shoot his head, “We were expecting Akanishi to come, but I guess you’re just as good…I mean I was hoping for Nishikido, but I heard that he’s…permanently out of commission right now so I guess it can’t be helped.”
A snide laugh.
The other clicked his tongue, “No kidding, I heard he went crazy.” Pi felt his anger rising. “I, personally, was hoping to repay Akanishi for last time though, busted my shoulder pretty good,” Aiba aimed the gun down at his arm and grinned, “Should I show you what he did to me? Maybe you’ll get lucky and I’ll miss and just kill you off instead…”
His eyes widened.
The gun went off.
----------------------------
Jin jolted when he heard voices. A lot of them. He turned to Toma and motioned for him to retreat upstairs to inform the others. The other nodded and slowly got up, Jin following, his gun drawn. They were at the top of the staircase when bullets ripped through the door. A moment later, the damaged piece of wood was kicked down.
The first looked up at the other and yelled, “Go Toma!”
Before he could get into the room, a voice interrupted him, “Oh-ho, what’s this? Akanishi? That’s quite unexpected.”
He turned around and frowned, “Ohno, what an unpleasant surprise.”
The elder let out a bark of laughter, “We figured that you to be the one attacking. I guess you’re letting Yamashita do the dirty work, hm? I mean, since Nishikido’s cracked and all that, but I have to say…that’s pretty smart of you, saving your own ass and all that. You know, at this moment, the other guys are probably hauling Yamashita’s corpse around…”
Jin let out a snarl at the mention of his friend, his grip on his gun tightening to the point where his knuckles turned white, “Shut up, you filthy liar!”
Ohno raised a brow, clearly amused, “You think I’m lying? Right now, they’ve got your friend surrounded and I’m sure they’re going to have fun killing him slowly. They’ll probably tear him limb by li-”
Bang.
The other swore loudly as he clutched his shoulder and shot back wildly as he commanded his own group to attack. Luckily, Jin’s reflexes were quick enough to allow him to dive into the room, avoiding the rain of bullets. Massu took over and began shooting down the staircase.
He took a deep breath and looked over, “Toma, give me your knife.”
The other didn’t question him and handed the weapon over. The first in command took the knife to the doorway and stuck it out a bit. Looking into the reflection, he swore and fired a couple shots before retracting his arms, “Shit, they’re almost up.” He looked around the room, “Koyama, pass me that chair…and whatever else you can. Massu, we can’t shoot all of them down. You’re going to help me throw, and Toma, you’re going to barricade the door with the bigger stuff. Try not to die.”
-------------------------
Kame was jolted awake when the sound of gunshots ran throughout the house. He looked around to see that Jin was nowhere in sight. Hands shaking, he fumbled around for the gun the other had left him.
Suddenly, the door creaked opened.
He looked over, eyes wide with fear, “…Jin?”
“Guess again.”
-------------------------
“Aiba! Aiba, get up!”
Pi could feel his heart pounding rapidly through his chest, causing him to be slightly lightheaded. He was panting as he watched Aiba fall to the ground, holes puncturing his chest up to his neck. He always did have the best aim out of the three of them…
Ueda looked to him for a moment before taking the first shot as a cue to open fire, everyone else following after. Pi shook the dizziness away and raised his gun to the nearest person, shooting them in the chest before moving onto the next. Behind him, he could vaguely hear Koki give a frustrated yell and a gasp from someone else. Doing his best to fight the urge to look back, he continued shooting, focusing on the targets in around him, ignoring the stinging sensation coming from his body as bullets grazed it.
He had shot down several others when he noticed their leader still kneeling by Aiba. Sho must’ve noticed him because he looked up from his fallen friend and to him with an angry snarl, “Yamashita, you bastard!” The other let go of Aiba’s now motionless body and drew out his gun, “I’m going to fucking kill you!”
Before he could pull the trigger, he felt something rip through his abdomen and was suddenly tackled to the ground with hands wrapped tightly around his throat. His mind whirled as he clawed at the arms to free his throat. But despite his struggles, he couldn’t pry the rage-filled grip around his neck and felt his vision darkening. All the sensations he felt, the pouring rain, the rocky ground, the screams and gunshots began to blur.
Pi faintly noted that the other was still screaming at him as everything faded to black.
----------------------------
Footsteps.
“Are you alright!?”
Pause.
“Pi did you just…?”
There was a gun in his shaking hands as he looked up. “Tackey, Tsubasa…he was going to attack me…so I shot him…Tackey, I shot a person! I just killed a person!”
Tears.
“Hey, calm down, he was going to attack you, right?”
A nod.
“He would’ve killed you if you let him…”
“But I…”
“You didn’t like shooting that gun, did you?”
“No, I hated it…”
“…good. Then try not to think of it as ‘killing’ someone, just think of it as ‘surviving’. This wasn’t the day you first killed someone, alright? It’s just the first time you were forced to survive, and there’s no shame in surviving, understand?”
“…”
“Yamapi, the world we’re living in is one where only survivors get to see tomorrow. And I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: as much as I hate the idea of you kiddies using guns, I’d rather see you use it than die.”
A gentler voice. “I think that’s good, Tackey. Let’s go bring this food back before the two start complaining…it’s alright, Yamapi, he’s just yelling because he’s relieved. You survived today, there’s not much else you can do…just make sure you don’t make a habit out of killing people without a valid reason.”
“I thought you said that that was good! And I’m not yelling! Hurry up, Tsubasa! I’m starving!”
A laugh. “Coming. You can have first dibs, alright, Yamapi?”
“And you better stop crying like a girl or else Ryo-chan’s going to give the world hell about it, you know how he is.”
He wiped the tears away as he walked between the two, “I don’t cry like a girl!”
Hands were placed on his head, “don’t worry, you did good today. Just remember, there’s no shame in surviving.”
----------------------------
I just wanted to see that smile again…
----------------------------
The rounds were slowing down.
Jin let out a sigh of relief as he stuck the knife out again. There was a heap of bodies and furniture at the bottom of the staircase and everything seemed clear for the moment. He looked around, “is everyone alright?”
Koyama frowned, “Toma’s wound opened up again and Massu’s been shot.”
“Did you take care of it?”
“I tried. Massu should be fine, but I don’t know how long Toma can go for without real medical aid.”
Toma let out a cough, clutching his side, “I’ll be fine…”
“Shut up Toma,” Jin looked down in concentration. While Koyama had a lot of practice treating wounds, he wasn’t too used to dealing with life-threatening wounds. And to make things worse, none of them had any actual training in first aid except Shige, Ueda and…blinking, he looked at the barricade, Kame had talked about receiving some training before…
But it’s safer for him to stay in my room. As long as they think we’re all in here, they probably won’t go after him or Ryo-chan…until they get up the stairs anyways…but damn it, Toma’s looking pretty bad…
He got up and poked his head through the doorway only to have a bullet fly past him, narrowly missing his head. He retreated, “second round’s coming!”
Shit. This is bad, they’re almost up the stairs…at this rate Toma’s probably not going to make it and they’ll get to Kame and Ryo-chan…
There were voices outside, “hey, let’s go check the other rooms.
Jin quickly reloaded his gun and shot down the ones who had made it up the stairs, but they were quickly replaced with new people. He chewed on his lower lip, “Damn it…”
There were more footsteps, louder this time. People were getting up the stairs…
Doors were being opened.
Suddenly there were yells and gunshots.
Jin felt his heart stop as he reloaded his gun, “shit…no…no!” He got up and shot down the closest figures only to see that the door to his room had been opened.
Kame!

A/N: Sorry for the shortish chapter and if the action-ness is too vague, and of course, the cliffhanger. And to top it off, the next update may have to wait awhile because my break's over D; On the other hand, I'm amazingly refreshed right now. If you've ever done hot yoga, you may know the feeling as well. ;) Other than that...thank you commenters and enjoy!
