I almost wasn't going to comment, because I just can't even think of much to SAY about this chapter. It felt like filler. I'm disappointed that, yet again, conflicts are resolved with no particular effort or tension: the ninja were doubtful a chapter ago, but now they aren't, because...reasons! Boring pointless filler. I'm disappointed that we're getting more 'let's punch a thing until it dies' battle, because we've been having that for ages and it's boring at this point. And I'm also disappointed in the half-assed philosophizing, because it isn't getting any more assed. Kakashi's blather about Obito's ~true feelings~ is sadly predictable; of course deep down Obito secretly believes in the cult-like allure of the ill-defined Will of Fire. And his banter with Naruto was dull as well. The things he says are just a bit vacuous, making it hard to feel all that impressed when the heroes manage to resist it. I guess the idea is that it has to be something a kid can think of a response to, but really, at this point I feel this is

"I'm still hoping things will pick up soon, and there HAVE been some good bits here and there, it's so...much...filler. But the pacing has got to pick up sometime...this is what I keep telling myself. "
Exactly. There isn't anything specific I can complain about in the chapter, because overall I have enjoyed them, BUT the slow pacing is killing whatever bits of goodness the chapters contain.
In one of the chapters, it was commented by someone that "tomorrow" is Naruto's birthday. Apparently it hasn't arrived yet or we would know. I'm hoping with Naruto's birthday approaching we will see something happen.

You are the first person to comment here, any you have writtten the longest comment in the chuuninthread. ;-) But I can understand you. There were times when the manga inspired me and made me think and dream, there were times when the manga made me angry (though some of this I attribute to the fans, not to Kishimoto) and inspired me to write long essays, but at the moment I am simply bored

lol, that is basically me, even when I have nothing to say I talk forever. XD
It's disappointing to me, because the manga really used to have interesting things happening and was thought-provoking, and I feel like the pacing is what's making me lose interest lately. If things were just moving along a bit faster, it would be better. I can only guess this has something to do with publication schedules, or maybe just Kishimoto being a bit tired after 10 years and taking longer to come up with new developments. Which would be very understandable, but still a bummer.
I really thought with the tree that something complex and interesting was about to happen, but then it was back to punching, sigh.
"but such a picture, where they unite in one form cannot deceive anyone. "
Exactly. What is going on in Kishimoto-san's mind? I have often wondered if this is just a manifestation of his sense of humor. Or is he catering to what he thinks young boys (10-12) find funny? Is he completely unaware of how the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke is interpreted? And is it accidental or on purpose?
I wonder what a Freudian psychologist would say about the manga. In any case I don't think we will ever know these answers. And for all I know I'm the only one who is interested in these questions.
For me, I'm just going to enjoy all these moments.
It's got to be on purpose. IIRC, SasuNaru is the second- or third-most popular pairing, behind SasuSaku and NaruHina. The publishers have got to know that there's a lot of readers who ship Naruto and Sasuke.
Once again I haven't much to say other than to agree (once again) that the plot is currently moving at the pace of a geriatric snail. Ever since the chapter with the God Tree I feel like the manga's been stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day timeloop with the same scenarios being repeated over and over and over again. I really hope the cycle is broken next week.
Regarding Obito, it looks like he will eventually succumb to Talk no Jutsu after all - which I was still hoping we'd avoid. I know this is a very long-standing theme of Naruto, but isn't giving the younger audience the message that you can change anyone's thinking if you just keep going on and on at them stupid (or maybe even dangerous)?

This suddenly made this thought pop into my head: "Imagine if it turns out IT already happened, and that's why everything keeps repeating." That would be insanely mindscrewy and way more meta than this manga has ever been, so it's obvi not what's going on, but dang, that would kind of awesome too.
Also agreed that the messages in this manga are not really healthy things to be telling children quite a lot of the time.

LOL. You took the words right out of my mouth. Or maybe Sasuke put everyone under Izanami as soon as he got to the battlefield and they are all in the same boat as Kabuto?
Agree, not a snowball's chance in hades this is going to be the case no matter how awesome.
I just may have to find a copy of Ground Hog Day to watch now :)
So I've been out of the Naruto loop for a bit and have just managed to catch up. I agree with everyone about the pacing of this chapter and the absolute ridiculousness of everyone just magically powering up and Orochimaru wanting to experiment some more. More than anything, as time goes on all I can say is the cycle of every major "villain" that faces Naruto, or any self righteous "good" Ninja will be defeated by the power of his "way of Ninja" continues but without any of these villains real issue being resolved much like rouge_angle said. More than anything, does anyone actually feel that Obito is a threat anymore? I mean here he is still trying to talk to Naruto despite being incredibly close to his goal. I wish there was a "villain" that would manage to ask Naruto a question that couldn't be answered with "it's my way of the Ninja" and make Naruto question his philosophy, but now since Sasuke has joined up with Konoha, will anyone ever question Konoha's credibility again
( ... )
I must admit that I can sympathize with everyone who drops out of the manga for a while. I don't think that Obito himself is a threat, but I think that the growing, blooming and bearing fruit of the Tree of Life is no longer under Obito's control.
