I almost wasn't going to comment, because I just can't even think of much to SAY about this chapter. It felt like filler.
You are the first person to comment here, any you have writtten the longest comment in the chuuninthread. ;-) But I can understand you. There were times when the manga inspired me and made me think and dream, there were times when the manga made me angry (though some of this I attribute to the fans, not to Kishimoto) and inspired me to write long essays, but at the moment I am simply bored.
This "don't give up"-message has been repeated again and again. There's no intention to discuss it in any meaningful way, because this would imply that you admit that there are situations where not giving up makes sense, and other situations where giving up and looking for another way is more intelligent. Naruto turning this into his ninja way is quite stupid, actually. So the ninja who were on the point of giving up are not persuaded by arguments, but by Hashirama's charisma and enthusiasm.
There were times when I thought that the manga was engaging in some serious discussion of good and evil. The last chapter that gave me hope was the one when we learnt about that Tree of Life, but at the moment I am without hope.
lol, that is basically me, even when I have nothing to say I talk forever. XD
It's disappointing to me, because the manga really used to have interesting things happening and was thought-provoking, and I feel like the pacing is what's making me lose interest lately. If things were just moving along a bit faster, it would be better. I can only guess this has something to do with publication schedules, or maybe just Kishimoto being a bit tired after 10 years and taking longer to come up with new developments. Which would be very understandable, but still a bummer.
I really thought with the tree that something complex and interesting was about to happen, but then it was back to punching, sigh.
Maybe he's tired, maybe he has run out of ideas, and the only reason the manga continues is the fact that it is one of the most popular manga of the world, maybe he has written himself into a corner and opened more cans than he can deal with, which is why he is now resorting to simple, but hollow messages.
