I decided today that I'm going to be doing my Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford. I would have been happy at either Cornell or Stanford, and it was a very tough choice. Rejected from MIT's Program in Polymer Science and Technology. I could hypothesize what caused that... my email earlier this week asking when I should expect to hear from them? I've already lost 8 lbs on my running routine of 4 miles/night 6 nights/wk. If I lose another 8-10, I'll be at my "ideal" weight. I base "ideal" on what I'm most happy w/ given how I felt when I did weigh that amt. The funny thing is that it's only been a little over 2 wks, and I'm already about halfway to my goal. I realized today that I've put on about 15 lbs from where I was freshman/sophomore yr. There are two considerations here: 1) At least 5 or more of those lbs were over winter break because I was eating out a lot w/ people and 2) I haven't had motivation to stay in particularly good shape these past couple years because I haven't been in another ( Read more... )

Apparently I got much closer to the grade I deserved in Ronald Rubin's "Intro to History of Ideas" class than what I thought he might give. That class was a total mess. I hate to admit this, but sometimes I wonder if I should have majored in engineering instead of chemistry. That's not to say I don't like chemistry... it's a very interesting field.
