She bites down the cold and hysteric laugh that almost came out as soon as the woman started to talk. It's an alternate, she reminds herself. Even if she doubts the demon this woman was would change that much, it helps the fact that she's basically saying the same first words the queen Selene of this world said to her in this new life ( ... )

"Your happiness is all I wish for you in your new life." Selene - this Selene, at least - will make no complaint if Usagi finds that happiness in a simple, quiet life instead of as Queen. "If you find that happiness at the side of the prince in that way instead of as lovers, perhaps that will even lead to a happier fate."

And the prince being a princess instead is precisely why Selene knew Usagi and Masako or Elysea would never become lovers.

Selene laughs, a soft and warm sound. "You will find your own beloved who you love as they love him," she predicts.

No matter how troubled their beginning, no matter how reluctant Usagi is to trust, Usagi can't possibly imagine how wonderful it feels for Selene simply to be standing here, together, to be able to see Usagi again at last. She has much to thank the Nexus for.

Deep inside, in the part of her heart where she remembers that different worlds allow for different events, that they allow for a Queen Beryl that is evil and cruel and thus can allow for a Selene that is good and caring... She's happy too, for being able to have this moment. Even in the surface, full of reluctance and pain she's glad to be able to have a conversation with this woman without it revolving about hurting the planet, its people... Or without Usagi being able to kill her ( ... )

Selene's face is shadowed for a moment. She'd rather that Usagi did have the time to think about friends and boys. Although she's proud of her daughter's willingness to protect the planet they all loved and love, she wants her to have happiness as well. And Usagi does not seem happy.

"Serenity," she addresses Usagi, "That is a part of why relationships between the moon and earth have been forbidden. Beware of that as you choose who you love."

Some day, if the Moon Dynasty heiress chooses a human, she will watch them age and die if things are not changed. Crystal Tokyo found a solution in granting the long life of the ginzuishou to humans; it's not impossible. But there is still a warning to be heeded.

Usagi blinks, then shakes her head simply; "In this world relationships between the moon and earth were never forbidden. They aren't forbidden even now, with the few survivors of the Moon Kingdom living on the Earth now ( ... )

"The thousands of years we live in the Moon Kingdom makes the lives of humans on Earth too short for us to form those meaningful relationships." She purposely specifies the difference in lifespans between this world - many worlds - and Usagi's.
