She bites down the cold and hysteric laugh that almost came out as soon as the woman started to talk. It's an alternate, she reminds herself. Even if she doubts the demon this woman was would change that much, it helps the fact that she's basically saying the same first words the queen Selene of this world said to her in this new life ( ... )

Live a normal life... As Tsukino Usagi?

No, she has never heard the one she called mother say that. Nor anyone else, not even Masako. Usagi tenses visibly, and turns her head to the other, not completely but enough to eye her from the corner of her eye.

"What? What did you say?" Her voice is stressed and it's hard to know what she's thinking about or feeling at the moment. Her glare at the other woman isn't any softer than before, but it's even more intense.

"You often watched Earth from our palace," Selene says, her voice still quiet and calm and dream-like. "You often wondered if your life could be different if you were born on Earth, if you were not born as the princess."

"I wanted to give you that life when you were reborn."

Usagi frowns. In this life her only reason to watch the Earth from the palace was to keep an eye on Elysea and the others, be sure that they were fine and watch the rest of the planet to see if anything was wrong. Only she, from her position in the Moon, could do that easily.

"I was happy with my life in the Moon... Even with all the distrust our people had for the Earth, I still loved the Moon. Until the queen Selene of this world declared war against Earth and tried to take it for herself;" she never wished for a life on Earth, or a second life. Not even as she killed herself. One life was enough for her.

Her tone hasn't changed but she doesn't refer to the woman in front of her as the one she knows, as if there was a difference. "Anyway, I wasn't reborn in this world thanks to the power of the ginzuishou;" so this woman's point is lost. Pity, she had almost hoped that was an honest opinion in general and not based in this woman's supposed actions in her own world.

She's just said that it was. It was so that Usagi could live a normal life that Selene did those things. It was to make it possible to give Usagi that life without being the princess, just as she'd said.

"You were unable to have that life after all," she says as if to herself. In her world, in this Usagi's world, everywhere battle has called Tsukino Usagi.

The problem isn't that Usagi doesn't believe her. In fact she strangely can bring herself to believe that, a voice in the back of her mind telling her that if Queen Beryl could be evil, the same could apply to even Selene. Even if she still doesn't want to believe that, there's too much pain in her for it to be accepted ( ... )

"Even I cannot see everything," Selene returns with good grace. Her power is great - but finite.

"For myself, I am content to have seen Serenity once." She is speaking of her own Serenity now, the daughter born to her in her own world. "I can only watch over her, and pray."

"All is good while the Moon princess is safe, right?" Again, she talks in a expressionless and distant tone. Her face being hard to read. "Or is it 'all is good while the planet is safe'?"

"You bound your life to this planet," Selene points out. "They are the same. Just as the prince's life and the planet's life, and the life of Elysion, are one."

"Elysea, not Elysion. The name of the prince in this world is Elysea. And you're repeating yourself in that one;" Usagi replies automatically, pointing out the mistake she thinks is in the other's words. She sounds casual, almost amused at the idea of Elysea being called Elysion.

"Prince Endymion is not Elysion." Has Serenity truly forgotten even that? Elysion was a secret, hidden realm, but the royal house had known of it; of course they had. The priests of Elysion had been wise and renowned.

Selene gave Usagi fake memories, and the ginzuishou showed her the truth but only about what she had doubts about. She can't remember her childhood as a princess, the most her memory of the past reaches is to a week before the war. No one has noticed that her memories are still locked, she knows she's Serenity and has the power of Sailor Moon. How are them supposed to notice if no one ever asks about further in the past than that?

"Am I supposed to know about it?" Usagi asks, unsure as she looks at the woman's expression. She tries to remember, maybe she has heard about it and didn't notice because how close the name sounded to Elysea? But she gets nothing... Nothing from before the war, she shakes her head; "I don't have any memories of that. Not even in the past life, all I remember is about the war. Maybe it doesn't exist in this world."

"Earth could not exist without Elysion at its core." She is very certain of that. It is Earth's inner defense, it is what protects dreams and makes humans the special creatures that they are. The prayers of Elysion's priests are powerful.

"Then maybe I just was never told about it, it wouldn't surprise me;" it sounds important, vital for the Earth. Why would Selene tell her about it? Then again, why didn't Selene target that instead of the surface?

"Perhaps..." Her agreement comes slowly, because it's still odd to her to think that the princess wouldn't have been taught something so important. More likely, she thinks with fondness, the princess has forgotten her lessons. She never did enjoy applying herself.

She never enjoyed applying herself, except for when it was to prove that she could live alone. Even if her grades aren't that high, many would surely get a heart attack upon seeing Usagi studying regularly. Only recently she began to get more careless with her studies, having other things to worry about, like senshi duties... Even if for a year she did it for the wrong reasons.

"Anyway, I didn't bound my life to the Earth, that's Elysea's purpose; my duty is nothing else but to protect and serve her. And I'm happy with that purpose;" the last is added sternly and with pride. She isn't interested in anything else, she never wanted anything else, nor in the past, neither now. Unfortunately she has been denied that simple thing constantly, even now all she can do is try to fulfil her duty from afar. Probably that's why she's more than happy to help in the future, no one will ever know except for a few. No one can push her away from helping that way.

Though it may change if she succeeds now and the senshi in the future awake somehow...
