These were the very first pictures I took in Australia. I landed in Sydney, checked into my hostel, rested for a bit, had a long, late, lazy lunch and then took a bus downtown, where I walked around the Harbour area for a while. On my third day in the Blue Mountains it was drizzly and misty. This meant I didn't get to see any of the magnificent vistas I had come to see that day, but on the plus side, I got to indulge in one of my favourite pastimes: photographing trees in the mist. Expect a few more of these later.

I can finally properly scan 120 film, so I thought I'd post a few cross-processed Holga shots taken in the outback. They look more like paintings than like photos, but as far as I'm concerned, that's part of their charm.

For the record, I promise my next post won't feature any trees. Well, not too many, anyway. :-)

I did the Sydney Harbour and the kangaroos, so now it's time for that other great Australian icon, the big rock in the desert that changes colour about fifty times a day...

This is what Ayers Rock looked like when Nicole and I got there around noon: a nice, pink-orangish monolith, surrounded by dozens of photogenic dead trees.
