***THE 2012 OMG PLEASE HELP FEED THE STARVING KITTIES JEWELLERY POST!!!***

Nov 08, 2012 23:45

*flexes fingers* Ok, so we all know they're not starving, but work with me on this.

Right, here goes. As I mentioned, for various reasons, there's one new piece, anything else will be made to order, so if it really is for Christmas/Yule/Solstice/Rat-Up-A-Trouser-Leg Festival PLEASE MAKE THAT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR, so I can prioritise regarding last posting dates etc.

Also, if there's something of mine you've seen before and liked but which I haven't put up here, please ask, I'll probably be whimpering quietly and muttering "Never again!", which is why it's not up, but one of the pieces I did that with (the Gothic Rose necklace) is up anyway, so ignore my whimperings! Similarly if you have an idea for a commission, please ask me.

I've tried to keep prices the same, but some things are a little more this year because of silver prices, blah blah.

-As I said, it'd be helpful to know if you need the shiny for Christmas/midwinter, because some things take a while to make and while I am certain everything will get to where it's supposed to go it's helpful to know so I can prioritise as obviously, something going to, say the US, will need to be made and posted before something for the UK if both are for Christmas. Of course you don't have to tell me squat either, but then your piece will be made in order of ordering.

-Payment from outside the UK should please be by Paypal (other methods by negotiation, I do try to be flexible, but paypal is easiest and fastest) and this is also preferred in the UK, but if that's a problem, cheque or postal order is ok.
Also and this is important, when you pay by paypal, could you please use the 'gift' button, or I lose some of the money.

-If you're interested in a piece, email me at jen (at) yellowspoon (dot) co (dot) uk, OR send me a PM via LJ. I'd also appreciate a comment on the post as to which piece you're interested in, in case my email programme puts your email in spam, though of course not with your email address. But if you want to keep your interest private, that's fine too.

-Prices now include postage, so please bear this in mind and these are as follows:

UK - £5 Special Delivery, or £2 normal First Class post. First Class UK post is not insured and I can't accept the responsibility for replacement, so if it's sent normal first class and it's gone, there could be tears. That said, that doesn't happen very often.

Europe and the Rest of the World -I will only send items outside the UK via insured mail as standard. This usually comes to around £10-£12, but as this is a lot, I am charging £7 for Europe and £8.50 insured post for the rest of the world, so I will bear some of the cost. I CAN send pieces abroad uninsured and I will if you ask me, but I wouldn't recommend it, not with something like jewellery and not at this time of year.

-Hallmarking. Yes, I do actually now have a hallmark and yes, I can have your piece marked, BUT, if you need it for Christmas it probably won't reach you in time. The cost of hallmarking also will add an extra £3 charge per item to the cost and take approximately three weeks longer, but it can be done. Hallmarking will be available in the future when I get my bum in gear, which hasn't happened this year.

-Pendants are supplied on a chain as standard and you will need to specify the length you want, for reference, standard lengths are 16" and 18" but I can make the length to order should you wish, just let me know. The price of the chain is included in the price of the piece.

-Finally, if you like a piece but can't afford it, talk to me. I don't bite and if I can help with payment in installments then I will. Please do bear in mind though I'm working to a really tight budget myself and this is all so I can actually afford to sort Christmas out, er, I mean feed the starving kitties. Yes.

-And finally finally, I know some of these pieces will seem really expensive, but as any of you who read my LJ regularly know, silver has gone through the roof this last couple of years and my prices have to reflect that :( Trust me, they'd all be a hell of a lot more through a gallery and in fact, most jewellers charge a lot more equivalent on their own websites.

So, to sum up, this is what you do:

1.Find a shiny you like, squee loudly and excitedly and decide that you would like to purchase it for yourself or one of your lovely and I'm sure beautiful and marvellous friends or relations (THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STAGE, BE SURE NOT TO OMIT THIS ONE *grin*)

2.Leave a comment to let me know which shiny you like. You can squee again at this point if you wish to, this is free and my ego will adore you for it.

3.Email me at the address above, or PM via LJ and let me know the following:
-remind me which shiny you like again (I am a bear of very litle brain)
-let me have your name and address so I can post the shiny
-if the shiny has a chain, what length you'd like, 16" or 18" are standard, but you can have whichever you want. I can also supply the piece on a ribbon or a leather cord.
-squee some more should you wish, at no extra charge.

I've put each item under a separate cut so you can go straight to it and don't have to keep scrolling through everything else, unless you want to.

Ok then, on to the shiny! Remember the kitties, people!

I'm so pleased with this! It was loads of fun to make. A tiny hare leaps across the face of the silvery moon, accompanied by a twinkly brass star. Set with a bright purple amethyst and hung with a freshwater pearl (which, yes is SUPPOSED to be off centre!)

And this is the surprise! The moon is made from a 1900 threepence. I polished the front smooth and left the coin's detail on the back. A fun reuse of a 112 year old coin :D

Size: 3.5cmx2.5cm
Price: £55

These can also be made as earrings, with or without the pearl and with the stone of your choice. Price including postage:
UK uninsured: £57
UK Special Delivery: £60
Europe insured: £62.00
Rest of the world: £63.50

This is incredibly pretty and as I said when I posted the pictures yesterday (sort of), it's a snowflake for the year, not just for Christmas!

Size: 2cm diameter
Price including postage:
UK uninsured: £42
UK Special Delivery: £45
Europe insured: £47
Rest of the world: £48.50

This is still one of my favourite pieces ever. I keep meaning to make myself one, or better yet, the necklace, perhaps with clusters of pearls and moonstones where each leaf joins. Yum. Slightly more pricey but it is, though I know it's not modest to say so, stunning, really delicate and eye catching.

Price including postage:
UK uninsured: £162
UK Special Delivery: £165
Europe insured: £167
Rest of the world: £168.50

Sightly wistful note: I can make this as a necklace and depending on size, it would be from £300. I'd have a squee fit if someone wanted this, primarily because I'd love to see it when it's done myself, but I can't justify making one for me, though I'm not really expecting anyone to take me up on it!! I was thinking the leaves sweeping round the neck stem to leaf end from each side, meeting in the middle, perhaps the pearls and moonstones and with another moonstone set leaf as a delicate drop or perhaps a solid silver acorn...*drifts off happily*

Again, not the most inexpensive piece, but truly lovely.

This is not quite choker style, but sitting on the collarbones and slightly adjustable. It can be made longer on request.

Price: I sold this one at £250 last year and was told recently by a professional jeweller friend of mine it should have been closer to £800. I can't bring myself to do that, however, and I also know I wouldn't have a chance of selling it either. That said, the absolutely ridiculous amount of detailed work in this means I have to put the price up a wee bit, so it will now be £350 plus postage. Sorry :(

**Stones can be substituted for whatever you like, assuming I can get them in the right size. Amethysts would look gorgeous in this style too.

The back of the necklace. The drop is just to add a bit of extra interest and to draw attention to the neck.

Based on one in the British Museum. The stones here are garnet and tourmaline and the latter would need to be ordered from Hong Kong, but I can substitute other stones, just let me know! I can also make this with cold enamel, which I already have and which I'm really keen to try. Any takers?

Based on a bronze chariot fitting from Brentford dated to the Iron Age (100BC - AD50). The Museum of London has the following to say about it, "Cast bronze finial or 'chariot-horn cap', decorated with a soft-outlined low-relief design of three linked palmettes. The piece was said to have had traces of red enamel inlay when first found, but none now remain. The design is known as 'British Celtic art style II', derived from the Continental 'Waldalgesheim' style. There are a pair of peg-holes in neck. Place of collection is unknown, possibly the Thames at Brentford. Part of the Layton collection."

This is another real favourite of mine. I gave one to a friend for her birthday and she wears it all the time, which makes me a happy little silversmith!

An old favourite and another one I keep meaning to make for myself. Based on the original in the British Museum which is around 2000 years old. I'm going to London next week and will inevitably find myself drawn to this beautiful shield, as always.

2cmx4.2cm(approx), set with garnets, although I will happily make this with other stones. Made to order.

And it wouldn't be a Starving Kitties Post (TM) without my baby. I never, ever expect to sell this, though I was lucky enough to once, but it remains my all time favourite. One of the first pieces I ever made and very special.

And not because I actually expect to sell this, but it's still my favourite of all the pieces I've ever made. This cuff has an internal diameter of 6cm and is 2.7cm wide. The surface is achieved by repeatedly heating the silver until the surface forms ripples and ridges and the pattern is taken from a 4th/3rd BCE bronze bracelet found in Newnham Croft, Cambridgeshire and is of the "La Tene" style. The design is sawn out and then fused to the background silver which is achieved by heating both pieces of silver to almost melting point, at which point the two surfaces join. This is a weighty, show-stopping piece!

Price:
UK uninsured: £252
UK Special Delivery: £255
Europe insured: £257
Rest of the world: £258.50

Hand tooled, dyed and painted leather cuffs are available, not that I've made one yet, but they're in the pipeline! They're tough to price because leather doesn't have the same perceived value as silver, but it takes even longer to work! Prices will start at £50 plus postage, depending on the complexity of the design. As an example, this is a leather bookmarks I recently made, which took around 12 hours. This, not that I think anyone would be mad enough to want one, would be £35. Yes, you can get these mass produced much cheaper, but that's how long they take to hand make, plus they are HELL on my fingers!

Hmmm, mostly pendants this year it seems! I also take commissions, so if nothing grabs you, please feel free to ask about those.

Oh, and finally, here are the links to the last two years' posts so you can browse those too, should you wish! Where a piece has increased in price *exudes guilt*, the new price applies. I couldn't face editing the last three years' posts!

Phew, I think I lost the will to live organising that lot. I'm trying to steel myself, as I do every year, for the tumbleweeds. It hasn't happened the last three years, but I know money is short all over and silver is stupidly expensive and it has to happen sometime. I'm going to go in a corner now and pad my ego, just to be on the safe side.

Any questions, please email or PM me, I've probably forgotten all sorts of things I should have said, I am after all, a bear of very little brain. I did mean to say that if anyone fancies any of these as a brooch, as long as the design is practical to adapt, I can do that. It's about time I got over my irrational fear of making them!

And remember at this time of year, the kitties, my poor wee mites, their little noses covered in icky cat food blue with cold, their tiny paws curled up while they snore their heads off in soft cat beds freezing, their tummies full to bursting rumbling and empty. Think of the kitties, people.

Ok, I have to hit the 'post' button. Gah, I hate this bit *hits it and runs to hide*
