Possible starving kitties post?

Nov 07, 2012 02:59

I've been umming and ahhimng about this and I still haven't made up my mind whether or not to do my usual Christmas Please-Feed-The-Starving-Kitties post and not because quite frankly Sorcha makes Falstaff from Henry IV look svelte, but because I don't really have any new things to show this year having been so sick, among other reasons*. I've finished a gothic rose necklace, which was a commission and boy oh boy, that took some doing, over 70 hours of work, but it's quite pretty, so I may post piccies of that.

*catches herself rambling*

ANYWAY, my point is and this is in no way to make anyone feel obligated if they comment on this post, but I was wondering if anyone was interested in a refresher of what I am able to make to see if there's anything which might make a present for the festive season. I'm planning on making a couple of new bits by the end of this week, so I'll be able to add those too, a pair of leaping hare earrings being one (I hope).

As I said, commenting here does NOT mean you should feel obligated to purchase anything if I do make the post, I was just curious really, because, well frankly, I have to earn some money somehow or Christmas ain't happening this year and I really am NOT kidding!!

*The other reason being I still have a commission to finish which is a year old for a lady who is very special to me and who has the patience of a saint and another I just finished for another equally lovely lady. I get things done in the end, I'm just terrible with deadlines because of the *yawn* M.E and the *yawn again* depression, both of which love to get me right when I least need them to, so while I will strive to be better in the future I am going to need to ask for patience, particularly if the commission is as complex as the gothic rose necklace! In my defence and to hell with modesty, I like to think my work is worth it in the end. Maybe?

Oh and thanks to the very clever sildil, who gave me a link to the amazing work of the Hairy Growler, I am hoping to embark on a new direction with my jewellery, using recycled sterling silver from pre-1920 coins and sterling silver antique flatware. This fits with my aim to make my work as a jewellery designer-maker more environmentally friendly, as well as my love of history and old things and my magpie nature. I adore the idea of rooting around in the back of junk shops and charity shops for lost and abandoned silver treasures and making them into something new in my style, while respecting and retaining their unique history in the design of the new piece. For my first project, I have three Victorian threepences, from 1899, 1900 and 1901 respectively, on their way, so if I get that done by the end of the week I'll put that up too. I wonder what they'll become :D
