A Mixed Few Days

Mar 09, 2008 09:32

I'm at Jon's place in Canberra right now. It's the first morning in weeks that I didn't wake up and have to deal with something straight away, either work, a bad dream somebody had, having to check out of a motel, or whatever. Instead, I took a hot bath and realised how wound up I am. So much for relaxation.
Accident effects

I recently dropped my Treo 650 into a toilet and even though it was completely submerged and soaked through, after a few days of drying it was astonishingly functional--the only real casualty was the external speakers, which still technically worked, but sounded terrible. Milkshake's a bit of a different issue, but there's still hope!

I'm sorry to hear about the accident. Since I rarely read LJ I was out of the loop on that one. It sound slike the trip has been good however, which sounds lovely and I'm glad to hear it.

I hope that your healing is swift and that you take all the time that you need to.

With lots of love,
Briana

No worries... I don't keep up with LJ either, and I think you still have more challenges. =) All the best.

We both had a really good time seeing you and hopeforyou!

That physio clinic was a critical factor in keeping me at work in my acute tendinitis stage. Their physio and massage staff have always been great for me and anyone else I knew who went there.

Apologies again I hadn't quite realised how strict I needed to be about the food restrictions for dinner, but that all worked out happily in the end.

Most consumer electronics don't mind water. The trick is to dry them *thoroughly* - tiny water gaps can bridge pins or get between capacitor panels. Milkshake might be a different story, but it shouldn't be particularly corrosive. I might almost suggest giving it a dunking in superclean (maybe deionised) water then disassembling and leaving it open to air dry for a couple of days. It probably can't make things any worse at this point. 8-/

Have a good trip back!

Yeah, I've ended up bathing the affected areas in contact cleaner and brushing off the dried milkshake with a soft toothbrush. The circuit boards look as good as new (or at least as good as the parts that didn't get dunked) so we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Evaporation can take quite a while to fully dry out tiny gaps which might be shorted out with a droplet of water. However many of the water-displacers used for machinery don't play nice with circuit boards.

I've had some luck with leaving something disassembled in front of a fan for a few days.

Good luck!

I'm glad you're enjoying your holiday, but I'm sorry there have been lingering effects from the accident. I hope they diminish more and more as you continue recovering.

Sorry I didn't get back to you Mik!

I've been feeling really emotionally drained and tired after everything that's going on, so didn't end up going anywhere on Friday.

I'll be catching up with you as soon as I can though in SF!! :-)

I am planning a North American trip, as I've wanted to do that for years, and now that I'm free to do as I wish, I'm going to do it!
*hugs*

Oh, it's awesome that you're coming for that trip! You're welcome to stay at my place of course, and I'd be glad to meet you at the airport and give you a bit of time to get oriented. Just let me know when.
