I’m sure lots of people would say Dean and Cas, or Sam and Dean, or Bobby and Dean, or something, but my favorite SPN friendship? Sam and Cas.
Granted, they don’t have a whole lot of scenes or dialogue together, and Cas was rather antagonistic towards Sam in the beginning, but especially in season 5, I loved their interactions. From Cas’s “I’ll die first [before Sam says yes]” to Lucifer in “Abandon All Hope…” to his “Because Sam is my friend” to Anna in “The Song Remains the Same” in response to why he wouldn’t help her scatter Sam’s cells across the universe, to Cas assuring Dean that the temporarily re-addicted Sam “isn’t [him]” in “My Bloody Valentine,” to Sam’s various times of helping Cas, I love their friendship.
No, it’s not as amusing as his and Dean’s, but the fact that Cas would refuse Lucifer and Anna, face-to-face, to kill or dehumanize Sam, who he’d once referred to simply as “the Boy with Demon Blood” just makes me smile. I really, really hope we can see more of their friendship in season six, and while it isn’t like I want to see Dean and Cas be enemies or anything as ridiculous, I’d love to see Sam and Cas interact some more.
