“Hey there darlin’”
Emma eyed the drunken man with distaste.
“Sorry, I’m not interested,” she said, attempting to sidestep him.
The man lunged forward, grabbing her arm. “Jus’ one dance.”
Before Emma could respond, she felt a familiar hand on her lower back.
“Sorry, she’s taken,” Alex said smoothly, deftly freeing Emma’s arm and protectively pressing her against his side. The man scowled and stumbled away.
Alex studied her. “You okay?”
Emma nodded. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“A simple thank you, would suffice.”
“How about I buy you a drink instead?”
Alex ginned. “You have yourself a deal!”
