There are 3 new FAQ variables now, in addition to the ones described there:

• [[gmlitem:itemcode]]: replaced with the translation string in the user's language for itemcode, in the general domain (see below).

I'd like to come up with a list of principles we follow when we write/edit FAQs; not "how to format the FAQ" or "stylistic rules" but rather some more general guidelines that dictate how we document what we document. The "FAQ of the Week" will provide in-depth criticism of a particular FAQ (usually a long and complicated one), so it can become extra-shiny. Feel free to discuss formatting, style, grammar, typos (hopefully none), order within the FAQ or category, content additions/subtractions, title/category change, and any other ideas about this FAQ. I've seen three separate requests in just the last few days where someone searched the FAQs for information (yay them!), read the first paragraph that shows up, but failed to see or click the Read More link that actually contained all the info mentioned in the first paragraph (boo!). Time to follow up on my last post on the subject of account level-specific FAQs. Point being that I'd like FAQs targeted at certain account levels - paid-only jojurnal customisations, for example - to have a little disclaimer at the top saying they only apply to those account levels ( Read more... )

We should revisit the idea of better targeting FAQs towards certain user types now we have the new, fourth distinction between free and sponsored+. Something like:

As of about an hour ago, I have finally completed HTMLising and incorporating our shiny new FAQ variables into as many of our ~250 FAQs as need be. This means one very important thing, in that any and all future changes to, or any new, FAQs must follow the official HTML formatting guidelines, and must incorporate variables where appropriate.Sorry ( Read more... )
