Yeah, I'm still alive. Been busy:

- fangirling over Byakuya
- meeting up with friends with complicated romantic entanglements (the shipping hexagon of doom does happen in real life!)
- watching Beowulf (oh, Neil Gaiman, I love you -- did you write in all the butt naked fighting scenes?)
- reading my latest acquisition, Umberto Eco's On Ugliness - ( Read more... )

censorship, movies, the great cesspool, imagination, on writing, by any other name, trouble, ichiruki, neil gaiman, inspiration, on editing, real life, byakuya, books, lemon, fanfiction

*cough* I saw Beowulf today, please tell me ur joking when u say that Gaiman had anything to do with. Please.

Be aware that ur response will determine whether or not I throw my pc out the window. So feel free to "embellish' the truth.

I'm also a Capote fan. To me; good books much like a good thesis should never be hacked out without considerable effort and pain, and stints in rehab. So don't stress the word count, especially when I can vouch for the quality ;) (I think Stephen King also insulted that book, lol)

Also u like Radiohead which earns u a def. plus with me, but do u like Tom Robbins (the writer)?

hate to break it to you but... laurie_bunter December 3 2007, 06:42:09 UTC
Neil Gaiman's one of the executive producers.

Did I just hear a computer crash through glass?

*ducks to avoid flying shards*

I read an interview on it... Gaiman wrote the script a long time ago, with some other guy. The movie was "in development" for several years until the original copyright of the script reverted back to Gaiman and his partner. Then the original director who commissioned the script said, hey, now we're ready to make it, Gaiman & partner automatically became exec producers. So yeah. He had lots to do with it.

Personally I think it's totally sexed up and not the Beowulf I read in English 21 (Anglo-American Lit: Beowulf to Shakespeare) with an aging crone for a professor reciting the lines from memory. Still, for an afternoon after a coup, I wasn't exactly looking for highbrow entertainment ( ... )

...I honestly have no words, srsly. WTF? This is like watching "Daredevil" with BEN AFFLECK and wondering if Stan Lee had been replaced by a pod person.

Gaiman co-wrote the screenplay with Roger Avary, which was adapted from the epic poem.

it's okay to freak out. Albeit the fact that it's not very fun.

I thought of joining NaNoWriMo, then scrapped the idea due to the fact that I really really CAN'T write more than about fifty pages before scrapping the entire thing due to mediocrity. XD

epic pr0n is good. :D
And you can get back to me on the epic IchiRuki Blood Chant Pr0n fic whenever you want. I'll be waiting patiently. [;

Oh... freaking out is a way of life for me. :) I get over it easily, especially if I get a good laugh.

Thanks... I need to get started on your story too. *teehee* It's on my to-do list.

I haven't had a chance to see Beowulf yet, but I've heard it may be a satire and that would be up my alley ( ... )

Beowulf is not much of a satire. It would still be up your alley, mainly because Angelina Jolie is one hot naked chick, covered in gold and wearing heels. Hell, she's up my alley.

Real life is important? *puzzled* Real life is a matter of perspective, sweetie.

Hokay, I finally went to see Beowulf, and it was totally awesome.

And it's what I would call a satire, too. The movie always seemed to be subtly--and not so subtly--mocking Beowulf's heroism, and showed how his legend quickly became exaggerated. The movie cleverly strips away his accolades, in addition to stripping away his clothes.

Furthermore, Angelina was hot.

*pokes Laurie* I... I... Well. before I say anything, first, have some fried apples!

*directs Laurie over to my LJ*

...

Okies. Had some? (Yum!)

Now. I must say that I'm totally with you in fangirling over Byakuya, too! Was going through the Byakuya-badass (how many times have I repeated this phrase since the weekends?) bits in 302 with my cousin, and changing my MSN back to (Byakuya-badass!) over and over.

*blinks* You'd better get over to doing the ByaChiru fanfic, and soon! (Will it include the info I'd linked you to? Hmm? *whispers* ...a secret room!...)

P.S. My Blue's near the end. Near the end. I'm left with a stupid 200 words. That's totally cutting off the story. And it was going off so well with the mermaid... now I can't even let her tell 'me' her name! Argh.

P.P.S. All the best with your 50,000 words. Hoped the (fried) apples inspired something...

I saw the apples. They look yummy. :D

Ah... Byakuya. I will not pre-empt my own story because the last couple of pages are giving me trouble. Hopefully I will be done this week so I can get on with other important stuff. Hopefully.

On your story, if you're working with a maximum word count and need to spin it out some more, go back and start deleting all the adverbs. If that's not enough, start deleting adjectives too. I know it's a pain to do but it should help.

Chocolate!
I was at a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf this morning/afternoon. Got a Belgian Chocolate Frap, and started working on my Ginpaku scarf.(I haven't met anyone who spends about an hour in a Coffee Bean working on her scarf. Thank goodness I was virtually the only one there.)

That's before I saw the chocolate stains of my hands, worried that I would get it onto my precious scarf, and quickly wiped off the sticky brown stuff... thinking of Yachiru. And Byakuya.

Catch my drift? *coughs.storyidea.coughs*

Just so you know. :D

Oh, I love Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf too. I'm always there with my friends. :) They have a very good cheesecake.

I haven't done that in a long time... knit (or crochet) in public.

On story ideas, I already had Yachiru eating chocolate. :) Do you want to feed some to Byakuya too? Ahh. Kinky!

I don't think he's a chocolate kind of guy though. He'd go for the more traditional Japanese desserts... you know, the ones they make according to season.

Oh, don't worry too much about that IchiRuki fic of mine you haven't read yet. It's a total mess. It's in Beta Land. I'm waiting for Adam to emerge with it bloodied and slashed and I do want him to take his time with it. It's harder to fix major plot mistakes and timeline inconsistencies than spelling or grammar. The less people who read it now, the better. :) After that, I foresee re-writing chunks of text ( ... )
