Yeah, I'm still alive. Been busy:

- fangirling over Byakuya
- meeting up with friends with complicated romantic entanglements (the shipping hexagon of doom does happen in real life!)
- watching Beowulf (oh, Neil Gaiman, I love you -- did you write in all the butt naked fighting scenes?)
- reading my latest acquisition, Umberto Eco's On Ugliness - ( Read more... )

censorship, movies, the great cesspool, imagination, on writing, by any other name, trouble, ichiruki, neil gaiman, inspiration, on editing, real life, byakuya, books, lemon, fanfiction

I haven't had a chance to see Beowulf yet, but I've heard it may be a satire and that would be up my alley.

To be honest, I've only read the first half of the first chapter of your IchiRuki epic. Uh, real life is important.

Rotten Tomatoes. They agree with you about Beowulf:

Evangelion Poster. I don't think I've posted this anywhere:

Hockey team. I am depressed because they're below .500:

I am disappointed that you failed to complete the NaNoWriMo. Stephen King wrote "The Running Man," a 214 page novel, in under 72 hours, so what's 50,000 words in a month? Why can't you write like Stephen King?

Ah, don't worry about too much editing your old entries. I was planning on flagging all of them, anyways, regardless of whether or not they contained adult content.

Last of all, I wonder how many times I lied about my age in order to go to "adult" websites before I turned eighteen.

Beowulf is not much of a satire. It would still be up your alley, mainly because Angelina Jolie is one hot naked chick, covered in gold and wearing heels. Hell, she's up my alley.

Real life is important? *puzzled* Real life is a matter of perspective, sweetie.

Hokay, I finally went to see Beowulf, and it was totally awesome.

And it's what I would call a satire, too. The movie always seemed to be subtly--and not so subtly--mocking Beowulf's heroism, and showed how his legend quickly became exaggerated. The movie cleverly strips away his accolades, in addition to stripping away his clothes.

Furthermore, Angelina was hot.

It's hard to sneak one past me, I get my email notifications unlike Debbie. :)

I wouldn't call it a satire per se. Like most of the stuff that's coming out now, it's more revisionist than anything else: trying to make an old piece of literature acceptable to the current times with the injection of a few contemporary views.

I'm not trying to get uppity here, but my favorite example of literature-to-film revisionism is Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. Now, that book was pretty much skewered by critics for its underlying pro-slavery stance. (Among one of many reasons why it's the least popular Austen novel.) But the movie tries its damnest to be politically correct by totally changing one of the characters to have an anti-slavery stance. Needless to say, it totally didn't work.

What's my point? I dunno. Why revise something at all -- if you can just write a totally new narrative? Sometimes old stuff should be allowed to be forgotten and just die a merciful death. *gets shot in the head*

So why did I watch Beowulf at all? Because Angelina's hot, that's why :) I think I'm the only chick who watched Tomb Raider 2 by herself because I was fangirling over Angelina and no one wanted to go with me, not even my guy friends. Sissies.

Incidentally... don't you think it's weird we like the same chicks? *puzzled* Asuka and now Angelina.

I guess I should only be bothered if you liked the same guys I do. Er... so does Byakuya turn you on?

*snickering*

I find it weird (but still hot) that you talk about girls' hotness all the time. I'm not that much of a fan of Byakuya (Kenpachi is my favorite captain by a large margin), so I guess you shouldn't be bothered.
