Your main fandom of the year?As much pain and anger as it caused, I still have to say it was House MD until the wretchedness of the finale finally put an end to any morsel of affection I might have felt for what the show had become (as opposed to what it had once been ( Read more... )

I love Domenic West, too. He'll always be McNulty to me.
And The Wire is dark, but it's funny too.
Excited about new Justified...I'll try to finish my long fic this winter too.

I'm barely getting hubby through the last season of Mad Men and I'm sure that's a helluva lot funnier that the Wire, at least in the dark/funny ratio.

It's weird, I like Dominic in The Hour series 1, but when I saw him in John Carter, which I otherwise hated, that's when the switch sort of flipped and I was like. Oh? OOOOOHHHHH!

Mad Men depresses me more...maybe I think like a cop.
Try not to make your mind up about The Wire till you see a full season...the payoffs don't come with every episode so much...more like chapters in a book, although I think the "visual novel" comparison is vastly overworked by now.
DW is terrific in 28 Days, even if he is The Bad Influence.

Fifth season Mad Men is really giving me a lot of that "Soprano's" something bad is ALWAYS about to happen vibe, especially with weird timelines and dream sequences.

You are into OOQ? :)

I'm into reading it, when it's written (so far) by fanfic writers who I've already loved in other fandoms. paperclipbitch and recrudescence, for instance. I think Ben Whishaw was just such an inspired piece of casting for a New Millennium Q. As long as he gets to keep his sass and NOT be woobified, I'm good. I'm also happy that the aforementioned writers have started writing the pairing after doing fandoms I either coldn't care less about or actively loathed.

I have been really happy to see favorite authors from other fandoms picking up OOQ as well <3 I really am heavily into it at the moment <3 and I agree on casting choice!

I liked that about Skyfall the best, that they tried so hard to make it relevant to current times :)

I am happy to read that, despite all, House is still the one ( ... )

I think with Mad Men, there's the discrepancy between the glossy veneer and the actual darkness of the issues going on under the surface. It can definitely be uncomfortable, but if you get caught up in the soap-opera "what is going to happen" bits, then you be not quite so disturbed by the ugly stuff.

Sometimes it's nice to revisit the fandoms of our child-hood. I had a lot of fun going to through ALL the Columbos that we could get from Netflix and re-living the 70's and some of the 90's.

If I ever walk away and get the dog-related job of my dreams, you can help me celebrate.

In my opinion, the ending that comes after those portentous bits isn't really worth all the set-up, but Mad Men isn't really one of "my" shows, in that I like it well enough while watching it, but I don't miss it so much when it's not around. Except Joan. I wish it could be a workplace comedy with Joan and Peggy, and not so much a weekly meditation on how consumerism makes us miserable, or whatnot.
