Your main fandom of the year?As much pain and anger as it caused, I still have to say it was House MD until the wretchedness of the finale finally put an end to any morsel of affection I might have felt for what the show had become (as opposed to what it had once been ( Read more... )

I am happy to read that, despite all, House is still the one.
That's the same for me too.
Except that, and I know I am predictable here, I've been really obsessing over S&H since a couple of months. I find that so weird because it's so old, and I used to love it when I was 10/12 (for different reasons from now), and it's so little subtle, and with so little subtext my twisted brain is a sucker for....but it is definetely "the" fandom now for me.I know it because everything happened in the same way when I started obsessing over House in 2004/2005.
I may love or adore a lot of shows, but it seems obsession is worth only a couple so far :-)
As for Dexter, I wish your husband would change his mind some day, because it's a real gem!!!!
And as for Mad Men , every time I try to give it a chance, I give up. I don't know why. That's a real enigma. Potentially, I love e v e r y t h i n g about this show. But there' s no way I can even finish an episode! Do you have any idea why? I've ran out of speculations....
BTW: Happy New 2013 to you and you husband!! I wish you this year will bring you what you deserve ! (for example, either the clear awareness that your job is still bearable after all, because of what it can provide you in terms of a living, or a new chance to change it!!!)
Sorry if I rarely comment on your job-related posts...I think we have similar problems with our jobs and I'm the least appropriate person to tell you something :-(
Sorry for the long rant!

I think with Mad Men, there's the discrepancy between the glossy veneer and the actual darkness of the issues going on under the surface. It can definitely be uncomfortable, but if you get caught up in the soap-opera "what is going to happen" bits, then you be not quite so disturbed by the ugly stuff.

Sometimes it's nice to revisit the fandoms of our child-hood. I had a lot of fun going to through ALL the Columbos that we could get from Netflix and re-living the 70's and some of the 90's.

If I ever walk away and get the dog-related job of my dreams, you can help me celebrate.
