Cooking! Or how not to do it...

I love cooking. I usually cook from scratch, I don't own a microwave (if there should ever one become available that looks like a Dalek, I might reconsider, though). I could say that I do this because it's healthier and better etc., but the truth is that it's more fun, at least for me. ;-) Fun times are had with Italian dishes; onions and garlic ( Read more... )

Yes well the Food Network sometimes thinks that they're showing morons how to cook and Rachel Ray isn't what I'd call high cuisine even on her best recipes. :)

We don't get the Food Network here, but this "recipe" does not really tempt me to find a way to get it, anyway. At first I thought it was a belated April Fool's joke! "Late Night Bacon" - awesome! :-D

I like to watch their cake decorating show, because they actually have impressive skills that I kind of envy (and tools I envy as well), but most of the other shows I put on for background noise more than anything else.

I don't think I've ever looked up a recipe on their site come to think of it...

http://foodnetworkhumor.com has another recipe found from one of their other 'chefs' which is roasted bacon.

Cake decorating is awesome. Or themed cakes! I love them. A friend of mine does the most amazing things, while I stick to slapping icing on the cake to hide the spots where the cake stuck to the oven, heh!

Roasted bacon... right. That's it. I'll apply with Food Network and demand my own show. They won't turn me down once they realise I can make scrambled eggs! :-D

I'd LOVE to know what the "chef" has to say about the comments! :-D Coming to think of it, such a "recipe" is quite an insult to the audience.

Do you look like that red head when you cook?

I wish! (It's Sophia Loren, by the way)

I look like this:

HAHA! Yeah, that pretty much is me as well, after realising that I confused sugar with salt! (It happened, I admit with great shame...)

Oh god I so hate and detest cooking - the time, the effort, the mess, the cleaning up and washing dishes afterwards... for me, no results, no matter how delectable, are ever going to seem worth it. Late night bacon is probably even more effort than I'm prepared to put into anything I eat. Until the day I have my own live-in chef/cleaner, I'm definitely sticking to my diet of cheese & crackers, chocolate and icecream.

I hate cooking but I like to eat well so I do it. My favourite recipe at the moment is jacket potato taken out of the shell with butter and soft boiled eggs. This is probably not eating well but is the ultimate comfort food until I run out of eggs.

Comfort food is great! I love jacket potatoes, especially with sour cream or melted cheese. I wouldn't want to live off carrots and salad only. ;) Made a butter-whitechocolate-nuts cake yesterday, and it was mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Now I'm getting hungry again!

The cake sounds divine!

I sometimes make a Madeira cake with caraway seeds in it.

Off to eat some chocolate...

I mainly cook from scratch as well. Maybe it's the (slightly, since everything comes from a Win-Dixie in my fridge) fresher ingredients, or maybe it's just the effort put into it, but I vastly prefer the outcome. Especially baking. I'm better at baking than regular cooking, and I really enjoy the whole process. Maybe not so much the clean-up...

And if you want to see ridiculous 'celebrity' chefs, look no further than Sandra Lee. I could say volumes about here, but I'll let these fine people do it for me.

Baking is a craft; it's satisfying to see a "result" of ones work. All the better if the result is edible! My mother was a fantastic cook and made the most amazing cakes; I still have a book full of her recipes. Ah, her carrot cake... *sigh*

Nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment you get after baking something that looks great. And tastes great.

I wish I knew... she gets paid to make bad cooks feel better about themselves?
