• "all of the sudden" vs. "all of a sudden" [vs. "suddenly"]: While "a" is more popular/widespread than "the", I had grown up hearing "the" used more, and it sounds more formal. Complaints of "the" not making sense while "a" makes perfect ( Read more... )
