This past weekend I went to Toronto for a couple of days. I took my niece and her boyfriend with me so they could visit the sister of the boyfriend.

Precocious Curmudgeon had a contest with the grand prize being the deluxe hardcover of Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack. All you had to do was write a prescription for the comic industry.

I'll start with Wes Alexander. I'm very sorry to hear he died. He and I used to trade friendly e-mails about some reviews of his work I did. This is an article Fredric Wertham wrote after the Comics Code was in place and being enforced. The article appears in April 2nd edition of Saturday Review magazine. He disagrees that the ACMP Code is effectively toning down comics and goes into examples as to why. He also criticizes certain provisions in the code too. Like Seduction of the ( Read more... )

As those of you in Ontario are aware, it snowed hard all day Friday. So when I got home I noticed our driveway was not plowed. We have a horseshoe type driveway that goes around the house. I typically go into the first driveway, but I saw snow that was knee high all the way up it. "Fuck that!" I yelled out to myself knowing for sure I'd get stuck. ( Read more... )
