Maybe I'm being totally prejudiced here..

But why is it that on FCBD that both of my local comic shops are filled to the brim with CGC gamers?

FCBD is supposed to be *our* day. The day we promote comics. The stores are crazy with a ton of general public people coming in and yet half the store is filled with gamers, sitting there playing games and taking up space on a day where space is much needed. And instead of promoting comics as good reading, the stores give off the impression that it's a fucking clubhouse for people into strange, obscure shit. As if comics didn't have enough problems on it's own in that regards. I can't help but assume it's a major turn off for the general public to see that and associate it with comics. Here General Public, here is an Iron Man trade just like that cool movie you saw yesterday, or Persepolis a fantastic graphic novel about a woman's life in Iran, or Walking Dead because Zombies are cool and don't mind the 30 guys two feet away from you loudly talking over each other about spells, cards and damage.

I won't get into the behaviour of gamers at times because that is truly prejudice, but I have seen some appalling stuff. Although I'll be the first to admit that comic fans have warts too. But I'm wondering why it always happens on FCBD, whether it's the store owners that encourage the gamers to come or if they just show up on their own. Regardless they shouldn't fucking be there as they got every other day of the year to show up and play games, but for some reason they *all* show up on that day. They fill the store to the brim, loudly playing their games on a day that's supposed to be about comics. Drives me fucking batty. But maybe I'm becoming an old man and this is my way of yelling Get Off My Lawn!

Still, on what's supposed to be a good day leaves me depressed and wishing I were in Toronto. You don't see this shit in the Beguiling or 1 Million Comix and some of the other more professional stores. Grr..
