Boy, it sure has been a while since I've written anything here.
As some of you may know, on my way back from San Diego I was stopped at the Canadian Boarder and had all my stuff inspected.
They took away one of my books titled Ghita of Alizarr Part 1. I bought this because it's an early 70s graphic/comic album which was unique for it's time, an ongoing part of my comic / graphic novel history research. It's a sword and sorcery book done by Frank Thorne. He was the artist of Marvel's Red Sonja comic book and this book is a bit like that, except Sonja is blonde, naked and having sex a lot. It does have Adults Only on the cover.
The reason they took it away for and I'll type out the exact reason they list on the form under Notice of Detention Part A:
Sections in Question:
1) Page 13 to 16 possible depiction or rape.
2) Page 36 reference to previously listed section. The female character involved refers to the scene in question as rape. There is a brief reference to bestiality on page 36.
Also I should note they screw up Thorne's name and call him Thomas.
I'm happy to announce the book has pass customs and is now back in my hands. It took a bit to get it though, customs does not make it easy for you to get your stuff back. There are no phone number on the papers to call. I had to google a phone # to call, pick a generic 'speak to an operator' option because nothing in the menu matched my predicament. Then I was transfered around to 4 different people before getting somebody at the actual border to speak to and they had to be talked into looking up my case by the #s of the paperwork they gave me. The supervisor there then gave me the option of either me driving there to pick it up or having it couriered to me. I chose the latter.
In looking at the book there is a scene were a guy does take Ghita and begins to screw her (against her will) but she gets a knife and kills him in the act. On page 36 a character says they think a unicorn wants to have sex with her. She responds by mentioning the previous scene and saying "I've had my fill or horse-meat! Khan-Dagon was hung your equal and near split me in two having the pleasure of raping me!" She gives the unicorn a smack on the ass with the flat of her sword saying "shove on, nag!" and the unicorn takes off.
They told me at the border that if it passed the book would be mailed to me automatically. If I hadn't made the call the book would have been discarded in 90 days.
