After exhausting most other options in the last couple years, I have found the solution to kids holiday gifts this year, Playmobil sets. There are a million different ones in all price ranges, and they're neat. That is what my child, and all other children are getting from me this year. Yay!

Operation "Fix the Wii" appears to have been a success. We just had to order a special screwdriver online to actually take the damn thing apart, then retrieve two poker chips and a paint sample card from inside the disc drive. Sigh. Toddler...s. Now if only I could figure out where the second Wii-mote went...

Today is September 15th, yay! That's a big corporate tax deadline, for those who don't know. I've been working like 12 hour days the last couple weeks, so now I'll get a bit of a break until tax season starts up again in like early February ( Read more... )

I am absolutely horrified that Proposition 8 has passed in California. You know, the one that calls for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage? Yeah. It fucking passed. For some reason, I can't cheer and jump up and down and scream about the election results. This is exactly what I was hoping for, the election went better than I could have dared to hope. But the overwhelming feeling that I have right now is just relief. Thank god.

You may have heard about the current crisis in the African nation of Congo. All sorts of horrible things keep happening in Africa all the time. Rebellions, genocide, starvation, disease. Millions of people die there. Infant mortality is absolutely abysmal. Children are kidnapped from their families and forced to serve in rebel armies and kill. ( Read more... )
