-Sixteenth thing
“You better get lost fast or you’ll be sorry,” Kyuhyun clenched his teeth when he arrived at the waiting room where Hyukjae was waiting. Kyuhyun went straight to hospital after the school was over.
He did think, might be, he will see Hyukjae here and think of many possibilities that he could do to the other. Because he had a long journey to take from, school to the hospital, he could coldly think with his gray brain cells.
Hyukjae looked up and stared at Kyuhyun questioningly.
“Fortunately, this is a hospital so I can restrain myself to not beat the shit out of you Lee Hyukjae-sshi, but Heechul is on the way and I’m not too sure if he has any of senses right now.”
“Good,” Hyukjae said, which only ignite anger from Kyuhyun, “I have something to talk to you two anyway.”
“Heechul isn’t in the condition of ready to take any of your bullshit neither am I, so keep your word for stupider anyone else,” Kyuhyun was cold and composed despite of the attitude he showed.
“Do you even know what happened?”
“Don’t get all cocky, you bastard! All I know that you hurt him and it’s enough reason for me to do the same to you!”
“Nothing matter than that?”
“Nothing matter than that.”
“Even if I say I love him?”
Kyuhyun twitched, “Even if you say you love him.” it never occurred to him. People say Hyukjae was bastard enough to play with people’s feeling and fucking around random anybody, it just that Hyukjae never said any sappy word like ‘love’. Love is not cool. And Hyukjae clearly thought that he was cool. So Hyukjae and ‘love’ didn’t get along well. But after sometimes, apparently when Kyuhyun finally digest what the other said, he added, “You didn’t deserve him.”
It’s not the first time the idea came to Hyukjae’s mind. He did think that he didn’t deserve Donghae. But having someone else to make it bordered and clear and sounded too real, felt different. Hyukjae was trying to hold back his tears as the younger repeated it, “You don’t deserve him.”
Why he felt so disappointed and sad to the fact that he didn’t deserve Donghae?
-Seventeenth thing
It was late. Just if Hyukjae moved his ass faster, he wouldn’t meet with Heechul’s wrath.
Kyuhyun was right that the man had no sense on him right now to even register that he was in a hospital.
As soon as he saw Hyukjae’s face, his fist already landed on one of the other jaws. Heechul’s strength not that great, Hyukjae could still stand on his two feet after the punch, but the older willpower was incredible. He launched himself toward Hyukjae and pinned him down on the floor and kept flying wild punches on the other face.
The best thing Kyuhyun could do, of course, let them be. First, because no one can stop Kim Heechul. And second, because he also wants Hyukjae to get hurt psychically.
The visitors in the vicinity shrieked and nurses who were passing by screaming. Hankyung came to the rescue and held Heechul up to prevent him on doing more damage to the other.
Some nurses helped Hyukjae up.
Donghae’s mum came out from a door and tried to get what had just happened. When he saw Heechul and Hyukjae, she felt she could guess perfectly what had just happened.
But before she could do anything, the security guard dragged Heechul out of the hospital and Hyukjae was dragged to the treatment room.
Hyukjae didn’t get any serious wound. Only some bruised that marked him to remember what Kim Heechul could do.
Hyukjae wanted to cry not because of Kim Heechul beat him, but because he still couldn’t get over his conversation with Kyuhyun earlier.
All the self confident on him crashed and shattered into pieces.
-Eighteenth thing
He wouldn’t dare to come back to the hospital after that. But not because of Kim Heechul.
He didn’t (want to) wonder why Heechul didn’t try to finish what had been interrupted at the hospital a day before when Hyukjae walk passed him in the school corridor. The older clearly trying hard to ignore Hyukjae and it just out of character.
No one, of course, making jokes of Hyukjae bruises nor questioning Donghae absents. They thought that Hyukjae looked cooler with cuts and bruises and they thought that Donghae had flu or something.
He had been thinking on going straight home if it’s not because a car approaching him and stopped right when he stepped out of the school gate. Hyukjae ignored it, he didn’t think the driver of the car had something to do with him. Only when the passenger seat window rolled down, he knew who the driver was. Donghae’s father.
“Hop in, kid!” said the old man from the driver seat.
Hyukjae didn’t do what the man said just right away. He could guess what was the other here for. And Hyukjae still didn’t sure if he wanted to talk about it. He didn’t sure if he’s ready to talk about it.
The elder could felt Hyukjae hesitancy as the boy standing still and didn’t make any move.
“Come one!” the man said with somehow assuring tone that made Hyukjae moved forward to open the car passenger door. Not really remember to say good bye to confused Sungmin and Junsu.
The old man was humming in the car. He looked not to bother by the fact that his son was in hospital struggling for life. Hyukjae looked at the older man from the corner of his eyes, questioning the other silently.
“Hum?” Donghae’s father sensed the question then said, “Don’t worry about Donghae. He’s a strong kid and he’ll be just alright,” with a nice smile.
Hyukjae felt shy, because he now understood that the other wasn’t not care about his son, but because he was thinking positively and he believed in his son.
Suddenly Donghae’s father face became serious as he was looking at Hyukjae, who because of anxiously also looked at him. “Hyukjae, Donghae will be okay, that all you have to put your faith in.”
Hyukjae saw the gentleness on the other eyes than made his aching heart calming down.
-Nineteenth thing
“Aren’t you going to visit Donghae again?” Donghae’s father asked, leaning forward to a railing and facing the wide free shore.
Hyukjae was standing near the man, still all stiff and broken. He shook his head.
“Eh? Why?”
Hyukjae didn’t really sure why this man so persistent about him and he kept his silent as he mussing over by himself.
“Why?” Donghae’s father repeated. And Hyukjae knew he wouldn’t stop until Hyukjae answered him.
“It’s because… he’ll be alright…without me…” Hyukjae mumbled, but it was loud enough for the other to hear.
“Why you think so?” The old man kept on asking. Hyukjae looked up to see the man, not really wanted to answer him, but he had no choice. “Why do you think he will be alright without you?”
“Because I hurt him,” Hyukjae whispered more to himself.
“That’s not relevant to the question,” the old man said as if commented casual politic conversation. Donghae’s father had to look at Hyukjae when the boy kept his silent.
“Doesn’t it bother you? The fact that I hurt your son?”
“Everybody’s getting hurt,” he said with a smile that made Hyukjae uneasy.
“I caused this all! I’m the one reason why Donghae is in hospital.”
“It just mere accident and no one at fault for what had happened to Donghae,”
“I…,” Hyukjae started but then he had nothing to say and in the end he just repeated himself, “I hurt him.”
The older turned his body fully to face Hyukjae. And he put his serious face again when he said, “Look, whatever Kyuhyun and Heechul had said to you, whatever everybody said to you, you shouldn’t have to listen.”
Why shouldn’t I? They were true after all, Hyukjae wanted to ask but Donghae’s father continued.
“Don’t you want to be with him? To be on his side?”
Hyukjae wanted to cry. Not even himself allowed to ask him that question. I want to, “I don’t know.”
“Why don’t you know?” he wouldn’t let Hyukjae keep quite. “You want to, right?”
“I don’t know,” Hyukjae kept saying.
“Why don’t you listen to yourself even once?” the other insisted.
“I… what?” Listen to who? Myself told me I don’t deserve him mister!
“Tell me the truth,” the old man smiled softly, “Tell me what your heart say.”
“I…” don’t deserve him.
“You want to be on his side, don’t you?” He looked Hyukjae deep in the eyes that even if Hyukjae tried to be vague or to lie, Hyukjae found himself wanted to pour his heart to this man.
“Yes…” his lips quivered.
“Then be on his side!” he held both of Hyukjae’s side and held it strong, as if challenged him to say other wise.
“But… I’m not worth for him,”
“You’re the one who decide,”
“Eh?” this man made Hyukjae confused to no end.
“You’re the one who decided if you’re worth or not. If you think you’re not, then be worth!” the man smiled so softly. Hyukjae could remember clearly to whom the smile resembled to. “If you think you don’t deserve him, why don’t you try hard to be the one who deserved him?”
Hyukjae nodded, embarrassed that some of the tears escaping his eyes and ran down his cheeks. The old man smiled knowing that he already achieved his goal. He smiled softly and patted Hyukjae’s shoulder.
“I know there’re a lot of questions playing on your head, kiddo, then maybe if you’ll try you can find the answers.”
Hyukjae just cried harder.
