I Love It

Isn't it peculiar how gods have no power over you if you don't believe in them?

There are Gods who are no longer worshipped. These usually vengeful gods don't seem to be doing much of anything to us though to demand our fealty. What gives? This is why we pretty much see ancient religions like the ones rampant in Egypt,  Greece and Rome to be myths ( Read more... )

yea... studio 60 is actually an excellent show. amazing writing. i watched... uh... 6 episodes yesterday, i think? heh...

as for the gods thing... the simple, cynical view is none of them are real, and if there IS any sort of higher power, it's strictly hands off. you know, never meddled in affairs, and never will, but is out there. *shrug*

course, it's also a very real possability that what you said about people having belief in someone being the source of their power. no worshippers, no power. i've played a few games and read several books where thats how it goes.

course, that being the case, why don't the modern incarnations of hinduism or various eastern religions which still having millions of followers have masses of miracles occuring?

or, could it be as simple as, to woute futurama, "when you've done something right, it's hard to tell that you've done anything at all."

after all, omnipotent beings couldplan things far more intricate and delicate then we are capable of comprehending, i'm sure.

Yes, there is that strong sense of 'either everybody is right, or everybody is wrong'. Which one however I cannot say. I did love that Futurama episode very much, as is to be expected, hehe. I'd like to agree with it. If someone is doing something right we really shouldn't be noticing. I also think that if there is something bigger and powerful out there watching over our proceedings they are either selfish or selfless. If they are selfless they wouldn't let us know about them. If they are selfish they would want us to know who's taking care of them.

I don't think Eastern religions have any miracles happening because their belief system isn't like ours. They don't need for that shit to be going on to prove anything.

So, why is it that they have been replaced? Is it really and truly because the modern day main religion, Christianity (or Cathlicolism, or any other one that believes in the Lord and Saviour) is the right one? Why then, are there still other religions/beliefs ( ... )

I think you are onto something. People would like to thing that their religion is undying but just like Evolution dictates everything changes to survive. And so religion also adapts to keep its followers. But also one day they perhaps will run out of excuses to refute facts ( ... )

Now, after what I have gathered from thoughfully thinking about religion and beliefs, and trying so hard not to put in my own beliefs, I will now comment with what I truly believe ( ... )

I do not generally discuss my religion with non-religious people, nor enjoy debates, simply because I am not good at them, nor have I ever known of an occasion in which any opinions have been changed concerning the subject ( ... )

I really think that one of the main problems that arises in these discussions is the broad generalisations. I do it, because it makes it easier to communicate large chunks of information, but it is often incorrect in some form. I acknowledge that ( ... )

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to end so snarky! I don't think badly of you for not believing in God. I was still a little sore from the other situation regarding my beliefs today, but I certainly didn't mean anything mean toward you by it ( ... )

I'm really glad we got these things sorted and I do feel like I understand you a whole lot better now to boot.

I think that it's a great thing for your faith to be tested, and for it to continually be tested. As you say, it makes you stronger for it.

Religion and Science will probably always butt heads together but this also serves its purpose because discussion is a marvelous thing.

I feel really good about this. Thanks for joining in and laying out your point of view ^^
