It's so cold in the house. We're waiting to turn on the heat, but that means we're pretty chilly in the meantime. I'm reminded of why spring is my favorite season: You know you're on the upswing. The weather will get warmer, nicer; everything is blooming. With autumn, you're on the downswing; everything dies or at least becomes dormant; while the trees show their colors, it doesn't last for long. And it gets colder, suddenly colder. It really was the perfect autumn day, the kind that's perfect to spend in the country...so I did. It was sunny without many clouds in the sky, providing a wonderful view of migrating geese, their Vs continually crossing overhead. I noticed toward the beginning of last week that the leaves on the parkway trees had started changing. They're now getting yellower, but overall most trees are still green. Some of them have started changing; while driving around, I've noticed some of the red-leaved ones have all changed over, but again, most are still producing chlorophyll. I ( Read more... )

It has been so dry this past month. In addition to the above-normal temperatures, there hasn't been any rain. I keep talking to people who remember last fall as chilly and rainy, and I vaguely remember having to walk on a rainy path as I went to my classes, but otherwise it doesn't stand out as overly wet for some reason.
