It wasn’t unusual for Serah to wake up with the sun. As soon as she felt the first lingering beams of light hit her face, she opened her eyes and found herself unable to go back to sleep. She had then quietly slipped on some clothes, careful not to disturb her new roommate, exiting through the doorway into the Caravan’s hallways. She didn’t have any particular destination in mind, wandering through the quiet halls and enjoying the relative silence that could be found in the few hours before most of the passengers woke ( ... )

For a man his size - at least compared to most of the current passengers on the caravan - and fully armoured, the Rookie was fairly good at moving around soundlessly and unseen. Not that there were too many people already up at this time, and honestly he was thankful for that fact. He was on patrol, and he was taking his duty very seriously, especially since Arthur had killed himself. Of course he had not expected it, nobody had, as they kept assuring him, but that didn't stop that nagging question he felt in the back of his mind - if not for that moment of carelessness, where he had let his attention and judgement slip, wouldn't that man still be alive? If anything, the incident had prompted him to take a more serious approach to his duties; that, and he felt he needed to prove something to Sergeant Weller and McNeill again now ( ... )

Gau held his breath, shifting from foot to foot, intent on the noise outside. he thought he heard a girl's voice, though the echoing on the metal against his ear made it a little harder to hear.

He froze as a though occurred to him.

Oh no.

A girl needed to use the shower?

Red crept down the back of his neck as he shook his head hard.
No, no, no Meguro Gau!
Think! THINK! Never mind that telltale blankness that either translates into asinine action or rooted terror!
She's probably already inside! And in an awkward state!

And he couldn't exactly just jump out, right? It would be indecent, and make him look like a pervert.

He shifted and nearly slipped on a wet patch, grabbing one of the shower knobs with a high yelp, then clapping a hand over his mouth to stifle another as jets of freezing water rained down on him and plastered his hair into his eyes.

Now that girl was definitely going to think he was a pervert. He wanted to kick himself, but bit his lip instead, holding back a hiss, and gripping the aching scar in his right side ( ... )

Perhaps Serah was vaguely aware of the Rookie’s approach, but even if she was, the passenger’s startled yelp-the voice of which was naggingly familiar-made everything else vanish from her mind. She rushed in, no longer held back by any sort of moral restraint, sliding to a stop as she finally emerged in the shower room, only to see a younger teen getting positively drenched by the shower head next to a pail and… cleaning supplies?

“Oh my goodness!” she yelped, her voice coming out high and restrained as her feet once again flew into movement. Within seconds she had cleared the distance between the two of them, grabbing the shower knobs and wrenching them off before hunching down, ignoring the cold water running down her her right arm. “Hey, are you all right? What happened?”

The noise from inside the shower was impossible to ignore at this point, and while the Rookie had originally planned to stay outside and ambush any potential threat, the fact that he saw a girl run into the showers right after the noise from a distance meant that that plan had to be scratched. He wasn't close enough yet to actually hear any part of a conversation, but he hurried closer as fast as he could silently, gun ready in hand ( ... )
