Remus celebrates! (open RP for Ravenclaws and whoever else shows up)

Aug 18, 2006 22:16

Upon receiving his letter from the Sorting Hat, for a moment Remus couldn't believe his good fortune. After so many months - so many years - he would actually be teaching his favorite subject again, his area of expertise. He was completely thrilled - so thrilled, in fact, that he wanted to tell someone about it right now. Anyone would do - even ( Read more... )

Stephen wandered into the Ravenclaw common room, book in hand, in search of Madeira. Oddly enough, there were more people here than usual. As was his habit when unaccompanied, he did not approach any given person or group. He poured himself some wine and found a comfy armchair.

It took a while for Remus to notice Stephen sitting in his armchair, but when he finally did catch sight of him, he waved happily. "Stephen! I'm the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor! I just got the letter from the Sorting Hat today - it's official!" He waved the letter around excitedly. (The letter was getting rather battered and champagne-stained by now, but Remus hardly noticed.)

"Give you joy of your new post, friend!" Stephen was just as excited, and raised his glass. "A drink with you?"

"Thank you!" Remus raised his glass as well, thinking that Stephen was proposing a toast, then paused. "Wait, is this some sort of 19th-century thing? Is there something I ought to say? Maybe I could make a speech."

Sarah was in a rather good mood as she made her way into the common room, as both her eagerly-awaited clothing orders had arrived today - the items she had told Stephen some time ago that she would buy had been ordered by catalog after she was unsatisfied with a short excursion to Hogsmeade and a few t-shirts from another catalog in a different shop she had visited on the same trip. Ordering had actually been fun, but that was because she was looking forward to the reaction from Stephen over the purchases.

She was wearing one of the printed t-shirts now after trying on each item once to see how it looked, having not changed back to what she had been wearing when the items arrived. She was actually highly amused by it and had ordered several other t-shirts from the same company for her own private laugh, even if she never wore them out in public. She had even ordered one for Stephen, though his was not suggestive at all ( ... )

Lily spotted Sarah and hesitated. Normally, especially in a circumstance where she was celebrating something brilliantly wonderful for a mate, she wouldn't hesitate to join Sarah and insist on a drink and a toast. But, after their last encounter, Lily felt as if something was distinctly off about their friendship. Far more than the fracturing that had happened as a result of Anthony, this was something Lily didn't understand or know how to go about fixing.

Having nearly decided to simply pretend she hadn't seen her (former?) mate, Lily was turning back to the bar when she spotted Sarah's shirt. And read it. And nearly fell off of her barstool. Choking on her Scotch, Lily's face broke into a wide grin. That? Was bloody brilliant. If Sarah had been her worst enemy, Lily still would have bought her a drink for that ( ... )

Sarah spotted Lily as well on her perusal of the room as she approached the bar, thinking uncomfortably of the last time she had been at this bar with her friend. Not former though, for despite her convictions that she needed to be completely careful, Lily was still her friend. It did set a tone for any time they met in public and this was the first time she had seen Lily without Stephen right at her side. For a moment, the confidence that Sarah had settled so wonderfully into over the last weeks was shadowed by a brief touch to one of the words on the t-shirt, under which lay the talisman, and a quick darting of eyes trying to locate Stephen.

However, at the sound of Lily's laughter and the realization of why she was laughing, her hand dropped back to her side. Lily was not an immediate danger, she had to stop letting herself react as though she expected Lily to do something wrong. It was not a fear of Lily she had, only a fear for Lily... and a fear of her own self, that her carefully constructed reasoning and emotional walls would ( ... )

Somewhere in some repressed corner of her mind, Lily relaxed marginally. All right, then. She could do this. Whatever she had done to put Sarah off of her, she could fix. Starting with this - just being like they used to be. Normal conversation, a bit of banter. Easy, right?

She would deny the fact that her heart was pounding and she had a sick feeling of nerves. This was Sarah, for Merlin's sake. Her first friend at Hogwarts outside of those she'd already known. Her sister, in spirit, if not in blood. Refusing to give in to the tiny urge to scan the room for Perry - and, therein, an impartial third party she could use as a subject change or source of quick humour in case of something going horribly wrong - Lily instead grinned and nodded. "Screwdriver, then, coming up." Pouring the orange juice and vodka, she handed her mate the drink and went to sit beside her. Glancing at the shirt, Lily again laughed. "I'd love that, Sarah. I, er," she flushed slightly, "I think I know someone who would find that amusing ( ... )

Finally back from her extended trip, Tonks hastily dumped her belongings in her room before rushing off to search for her much neglected boyfriend.

Peeking into the Ravenclaw common room she found not only Remus, but Sirius, Lily, and a number of other people. (Was that Professor Mcgonagall? At the bar? Shocking.) Judging from the empty glasses already littering the bar top, there seemed to be something of a party going on.

Tonks leaned against the end of the bar and tried to look stern. "Oh, so this is how it is. I leave for a bit and you all decide to go out partying every night?" She tried to keep a straight face, but she couldn't keep away a happy grin.

"Tonks!" Remus leaped to his feet, spilling his champagne on the bar. "Tonks, you're back! Look, I've been appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts professor! It's what I've been wanting for ages - look, it's official -" Once again he displayed the increasingly battered letter. It was going to fall apart by the end of the evening, he was quite sure of that. "Come on and have some champagne. We're all celebrating."

"That's wonderful!" She hugged him enthusiastically, spilling yet more champagne. "Congratulations. I know how much this must mean to you." She helped herself to a drink.

Remus accepted the hug happily. "Thank you. Merlin, I'm so glad you're back. How did everything go at the Ministry? I see you managed to escape without any major trauma."

On seeing an open door to the Ravenclaw common room, Domino could not resist the urge to grab a free drink. It was quite busy tonight, and she had no idea why. Grabbing a strong drink she took a seat by the bar and watched, to get some idea of what was going on.

Since arriving at Hogwarts, Victor had spent most of his time exploring the school, sketching portraits of various confused house elves, and poring over library books in his dorm room. In other words, he hadn't exactly been very social. The party in the common room seemed like a good way to remedy this, despite Victor's relative inexperience with alcohol. Taking a deep breath, Victor sat down at the nearest empty barstool and tried to decipher the drinks list, looking a bit lost.
