Upon receiving his letter from the Sorting Hat, for a moment Remus couldn't believe his good fortune. After so many months - so many years - he would actually be teaching his favorite subject again, his area of expertise. He was completely thrilled - so thrilled, in fact, that he wanted to tell someone about it right now. Anyone would do - even

Finally back from her extended trip, Tonks hastily dumped her belongings in her room before rushing off to search for her much neglected boyfriend.

Peeking into the Ravenclaw common room she found not only Remus, but Sirius, Lily, and a number of other people. (Was that Professor Mcgonagall? At the bar? Shocking.) Judging from the empty glasses already littering the bar top, there seemed to be something of a party going on.

Tonks leaned against the end of the bar and tried to look stern. "Oh, so this is how it is. I leave for a bit and you all decide to go out partying every night?" She tried to keep a straight face, but she couldn't keep away a happy grin.

"Tonks!" Remus leaped to his feet, spilling his champagne on the bar. "Tonks, you're back! Look, I've been appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts professor! It's what I've been wanting for ages - look, it's official -" Once again he displayed the increasingly battered letter. It was going to fall apart by the end of the evening, he was quite sure of that. "Come on and have some champagne. We're all celebrating."

"That's wonderful!" She hugged him enthusiastically, spilling yet more champagne. "Congratulations. I know how much this must mean to you." She helped herself to a drink.

Remus accepted the hug happily. "Thank you. Merlin, I'm so glad you're back. How did everything go at the Ministry? I see you managed to escape without any major trauma."

[vividtonks]

"Nope, just minor truama," she jokes. "I swear I'm not sure anymore if I'm watching Hogwarts for the Ministry, watching the Ministry for the Order, such as it is, or just generally watching out for trouble. I'm going to turn into a paranoid old coot like Moody one of these days.

"I did have to provide clarification on a few rumours that had reached London. If anyone asks, Stubby Bordman finally snapped and showed up here insisting he was Sirius Black. You know how crazy those has-been rockers can get."

Remus started cracking up. "Well, I suppose that would explain the whole Jim Morrison thing he's been on about ever since he got here. I should ask him to perform a song on the next WART."

[vividtonks]

"Oh, I'm sure he'd be fantastic. Maybe Mr. Morrison could come do a duet with him," she laughed. "Has the radio star been getting you into trouble lately?" She was anxious to find out about what had been happening while she was gone.

"No, I've been keeping out of trouble, mostly. Just working on my bloody paper most of the time. I really don't think it's ever going to be done, honestly..." Remus sighed. "Though now I'm thinking about writing a paper on Professor Homsar - have you ever met him? I think he's some subspecies of gnome."

[vividtonks]

"Really? There's a gnome, er, gnome-like-thing teaching here? That's a bit unorthodox. I haven't met him, I'm sure I'd remember something like that. What does he teach?"

"He teaches Arithmancy, apparently. Though I don't think he's actually held any classes yet. And I'm rather afraid to see what might happen if he did." Remus pondered the great mystery of Homsar. "He has telekinetic powers... and his hat... I'm not sure if his hat is part of his body or perhaps a symbiotic life form."
