nothing wrong with a desktop model, just do not get a dell. Macs get virus' too. Don't know, but it will be an adjustment.

Macs *rarely* get them though--almost unheard of *points down to autumnmist's comment* It is an adjustment, but by God it already after a few hours makes PCs look like utter crap....

I tried using a mac after 20 years. I got frustrated with it, seem like it was better suited to games, and entertainment.

I suppose I will be on PCs until the super tablets come out in a few years. =)

It takes some getting used to--I haz a class on it tomorrow. But I'm finding it pretty intuitive.

Macs can theoretically get viruses but I have never seen one and certainly the few viruses that can infect Macs have been spread through........ downloads of pirated software. It's nothing like the Windows ecosystem where you can get infected by visiting a random site.

If your HP printer has a USB cable, it almost certainly will work with your Mac... and even better, it'll probably work without installing any drivers because OS X comes with a lot of drivers by default.

You can always install Windows via Boot Camp and dual boot to use your Windows software....

*"I have never seen one" = I did tech support for all 4 years at Princeton and then have been unofficial tech support in my lab for the last 3 years....

And I've been working on Macs since the late '90s (publishing industry) and have never, ever gotten a virus, whether on a work computer or a home computer.

I've used Macs for longer than there's been the WWW. (God, that makes me feel old.) I have seen a virus. Once. Circa ~1997 or so. And the OS-installed security software took care of it and let me know after.

That is the big down side--all that software this won't run. But...so shiny... (Yes, I'm playing with my new--and first--Mac

I switched from PC to Mac five (nearly six) years ago, and I have never looked back or felt even the slightest twinge of regret. To be honest, I find the Mac interface to be so much more intuitive and user-friendly that I get incredibly annoyed whenever I have to use a PC for anything. (I never thought I'd be one of those Mac Evangelists, but it's actually hard not to be one ( ... )

I'm in love. It's an adjustment, yes. But already without classes or Macs for Dummies or even looking at the little booklet I'm finding I'm picking it up just by experimenting and it is intuitive--and already sooooo much less annoying than PC have been for years Of course, its been years since I have bought a laptop, so it might be unfair to compare the latest Mac shiny with a PC of 8 years ago, but DEAR GOD.

And printer? Well, new copy/printer/scanner came with full rebate so... non issue as it turned out.
