I adore my new ginormous iMac. I got a factory refurbished and saved myself a couple hundred bucks that way (you can find the links to the refurbished products if you scroll way down on the Apple Store page and look in the lower left-hand corner). It's still covered by their standard warranty, and I can add AppleCare any time during the first year I own it.
My old eMac was 10 years old, and the only thing that ever went wrong with it is that the DVD/CD drive died a couple of years ago. I got an inexpensive external drive and used that. No biggie. That's one of the things I love about Macs -- they live (practically) forever. What finally prompted me to replace mine was that it was just too slow to run more modern software, and the screen size really limited the graphic design work I do.
So I say go for it -- but check into the refurbished models. I think they're a great deal. And the free ground shipping is like whoa fast. I ordered mine on a Tuesday and got it on Thursday morning.
And zomg, I'm already in love. Still getting the hang of things, but its so quick. And everything wireless and compact. And a finger stroking the mouse scrolls things. And no irritating start ups and...
