Father and Son talks

Jul 19, 2009 19:27

The fight had happened four days ago now, and it was Monday. Ben was due to be at work, but the last place he wanted to be was with his father. He figured that his leaving home was in effect his big I quit anyway. Sarah, however, had to go off with the girls shopping at the mall for clothes for school. She dragged Ben along, but once the girls ( Read more... )

Dean had meant what he said when he said that things had gone on long enough. There was only so long that Dean was going to let Ben do that to Lisa, and four days was well past the limit. He'd put up with it so long as he knew that Ben was safe, and he was taking Alec's word on that one, but now he needed to smack some sense into his eldest and get him to start acting more like a seventeen year-old as oppose to a seven year-old.

He used the GPS on Ben's phone to track him down, and once he was in the mall it didn't take him long to spot him in Starbucks. Sliding his hands in his pockets, he made his way over, standing next to him for a moment before kicking the side of the couch lightly to get his son's attention.

"What the...?" Ben put the book down and looked up angerily, then groaned and shut his eyes.

"What do you want?"

"You need to stop this and come home," Dean said firmly, giving his son a look that said he was done screwing around. He was his father, whether Ben liked it or not.

"Right now I'm busy." He pointed to the bags of clothing that were obviously not his unless he was becoming a cross dresser.

He gave Dean back a look that if anything, Dean had seen before. It was his face, but the look that Sam always gave John growing up when he felt that John was being unreasonable and overbearing.

Ben had gone and found Sarah, giving her the bags she had been collecting and telling her that he needed to go clear his head. He didn't promise to find her later, or if he was even going back to her place that night ( ... )

Sammy was sitting at the coffee table in the living room, continuing to work her way through that coloring book she's been getting through all week. She wasn't oblivious to the Ben shaped hole that'd been left after the latest Winchester blow-out. She didn't know how, or why, but she knew that her big brother hadn't been home in a long time and she missed him. A lot. It made her parents sad, and now Alec had disappeared with him, and Sammy was suddenly feeling very lonely in this great big house.

Her head picked up when she heard the door open, and she did a double take when she saw who it was. She had been starting to think that he was never coming home, and when she spotted him, she was on her feet and charging towards him, throwing her arms around his waist and burying her face in his stomach.

"Don't leave again."

Ben was tackled before he was able to even get out of the front hall. His arms were in the air, and after a moment he lowered them to her shoulders.

"Sorry, kid. I'm just here to get my stuff and go." He wasn't going to lie to her.

And with that, he was hit with the wide teary eyes of a seven year-old who didn't understand why her big brother was leaving her. "You can't! Everybody's sad when you're not here, and Alec's gone and Mom's cleaning all the time, and Dad doesn't talk to anybody and when he came home before he was really really sad. He's sorry, Ben, he is, just stay."

Good job, Ben. You've made your sister cry.

One of the things Alec loved about Ava was that she knew he was a freak. Someday he'd tell her just how much of one, but that wasn't for right now. Right now he was grateful to her for forgiveing him for bailing on her after dinner instead of staying the night.

He gave her a quick kiss on the cheej at her front door and promised to call her in the morning and then set out to walk home. He used the time to try and formulate an appology to his brother, but wasn't quite sure why he bothered since he knew in the end he'd just blurt out something stupid, but but painfully honest.

He was still working on it when he opened the door to the house and stepped inside. The scent of desperation would take a few days o disapate just like it had taken a couple to build.

Ben was in the kitchen scavenging for food. He was a growing teenage boy after all and diner had only been two hours ago.

When the door opened, he tilted his head to see who had come home, knowing it was more than likely Alec - otherwise it would be a burglar - and then waved.

"You still hungry?"

"Yeah? A little." he never ate as much as he wanted in public. It would just be weird and rude.

He stepped into the kitchen and tried to decide if Ben was trying to pretend there was nothing to talk about, or just didn't want to talk about it right now.

"Good. I'm making ham sandwiches. That work for you?"

It was a bit of both. Ben was hoping to just try and act like nothing had happened. He wasn't angry at his brother at all anymore. But he knew they were going to have to talk about what happened eventually.
