May at the Sea in the Year Without a Summer

Here on May 5th, I'm almost always still running the space heater in the morning. Currently, it's only 60˚F here in Providence. In Birmingham, it's 81˚F. I'm quite convinced now that New England will not have a summer this year. We hardly had one last year ( Read more... )

The wind and the sea were wild, and we watched a tiny lobster boat working much too near the eastern side of Beavertail. I took some photos, below, behind the cut.

It does look wintry. I still find the rocks and the waves very beautiful. Thank you for sharing them.

I was very beautiful, but I have all but lost my ability to appreciate that beauty; I only know it, abstractly.

I'm trying to steel myself for San Diego Comic Con, which I'm a "special guest" at this year

Well, if nothing else, I can promise with reasonable confidence at least 100 Fahrenheit weather and the convention centre is on the harbour.

Great photos. I love how the sea sculpts the rocks.

Lovely photos, but they feel like late November not May.

I hope you get to enjoy the wonderous warm of Southern CA between events at SDCC (your appearance is the first thing in years that's made me want to go, but I loathe that con). Will you be doing a local signing while you're there? If so I'll figure out how to get there for a day or two.

The picture with the slanted perspective of landscape is one of my favorite photos ever...the shades of blue sky filtering through the white of clouds and the green of trees alone, but then the skewed view of the tree trunk almost perfectly mirroring the mast (I think) of the ship in the next photo. That's a beautiful moment, right there.
