Not strictly garden-related, but...

I thought some of you might like to see some of the spring flowers we get in our local bushland.  Mods, if this isn't OK, please let me know and I'll take it down.

One of the things I love about Australian bush is how understated it is.  There's a lot of muted greens and browns, and maybe because of that, the wildflowers in spring are generally ( Read more... )

Haha, it took me a while to spot the bird when I was trying to take a picture of it! I had to use my ear to work out where to point the camera ;D

I'm in the northern suburbs of Perth, in the south-west corner.

it seems the farther west in Australia you get, the more exotic the wildlife. I guess it's because its so isolated...?

again, great photos!

Thanks :)

Apparently there are a few biodiversity 'hotspots' in this part of the country, and I'm sure isolation has a lot to do with it - flora and fauna sticking to their little parts of the continent and avoiding that huge desert in the middle LOL (although there's also lots of interesting life there, too!)

I love it. I live in Florida, but my family lives in Perth. I love to visit and see the total and complete different climate than the one I'm used to. The desert is gorgeous. And I love the blackboys. :) And I love that they're called blackboys.

That's lame. They should just see the funny in it.

I think it's lame too because it's so over the top and it's really just a name. I don't think anyone actually associated the name with an actual black boy until the name changed.
It's hard to have a sense of humor over it though - the history of the Aboriginal people in this country is very... um, sad and difficult.
