I thought some of you might like to see some of the spring flowers we get in our local bushland.  Mods, if this isn't OK, please let me know and I'll take it down.

I love it. I live in Florida, but my family lives in Perth. I love to visit and see the total and complete different climate than the one I'm used to. The desert is gorgeous. And I love the blackboys. :) And I love that they're called blackboys.

I think it's lame too because it's so over the top and it's really just a name. I don't think anyone actually associated the name with an actual black boy until the name changed.
It's hard to have a sense of humor over it though - the history of the Aboriginal people in this country is very... um, sad and difficult.

Yeah I went to the Aboriginal display in the museum last December... it's very sad. And not unlike the stories of the Native Americans. Maybe there's a common denominator in there somewhere... Still... it's just a funny tree name.

I think the common denominator is found wherever there was an invading colonising force, unfortunately. Indigenous peoples all over have fared similarly.

Anyway, I prefer their Latin name - Xanthorrhoea - if only because it rolls off the tongue nicely, plus it start with an 'x' and there just aren't enough words starting with 'x', in my opinion.
