I had the pleasure of talking guns with one of Gunny Carlos Hathcock's pallbearers Friday evening. I later confirmed his credentials-- he is the real deal. Ex-USMC sniper/instructor, high power national champ and really nice guy. He is game for helping forestmaster and I with our long range shooting. Sometimes it pays to let people know you are into guns. :)

I have decided to sell my mint condition, never fired, Springfield Armory 4800 chambered in .223. Less than 700 of them were imported into the US before they were banned so it is a rare item. Canada's nationwide long gun registry was finally repealed two days ago. After costing tax payers in excess of a billion dollars with very little if any results to justify its existence, it finally got shut down after 17 years of hard work by the DCRA and other shooting organizations. I was at the local extension of the County Clerks office today and had to wait in line for about 45 minutes. While I was there, only one couple was there to get a marriage license. First of all, in the good news column, the government has decided to stop wasting our tax money and have dropped all charges against the “SHOT Show 22” from 2010. I do feel sorry for the 3 that pled guilty instead of fighting in court.
